unable to use DVI

just bought a new graphics card.up until now pc has always used vga. ive bought a new dvi to dvi-d cable. connected monitor to graphics card and to dvi slot on mobo. absolutely nothing

gutted because i really want to know graphics cards ok. if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated

disconnect from the mobo dvi slot if you have a graphics card.

I've disconnected from mobo dvi and connected to gpu. Monitor doesn't recognise an input

What monitor?
What video card?
What motherboard?

Have you selected the correct input on the monitor via the monitor's menu system (assuming it's necessary)?

Problem solved . Faulty dvi port on monitor everything works fine now
