Can anyone tell me why the price of regular 1080's have started to creep up again?

..It certainly can't (or at least shouldn't) be anything to do with exchange rate.

Partners and NVIDIA were offering resellers big rebates to clear the stock fast, those rebates have now ended (some still running until end of April like EVGA) and stocks are now at acceptable levels on 1080 so the need to flush, give them away as such has ended.

In short NV line up is:

1050: £100
1050Ti: £120-£130
1060 3G: £160-£200
1060 6G: £200-£260
1060 6G PLUS: £250-£300
1070: £350 - £450
1080: £500-£600
1080 PLUS: £550-£650
1080Ti: £650-£1000

They have all price points covered, of course if they feel they need to sell more volume they may adjust the whole stack down at some point, but so far no signs of any price drop or movements.

This is why 1080 has increased in pricing whereas 1080Ti has come down due to stock landing at stronger pound levels. :)

..Let's hope Vega's price/performance level gives them the incentive.

..because prices on (near 12mth old) GPU tech should not be going up.

I know top end GPU'S have always been expensive but £750 for a decent AIB card is beyond most people I would think. Certainly the younger gamers out there.

I'd be interested to see what the landscape would be like without easy credit. Don't get me wrong the 1080Ti looks a great card but I'd love to know what cost price is. You would think they could shift more than twice as many if they were sub £500? Maybe they don't have the yield to supply the huge demand if they were that price?

Thats not how business works, you charge whatever people decide to pay. Also, selling 2x more cards at simply non existent margins isn't going to bring more profits. The overheads don't get cheaper simply by lowering the RRP, still costs them the same to make cards, advertise, distribute and pay staff - if not more with increased sales. It's likely they will have to sell 3-5x as many cards if they dropped prices by 30% to make same profit and at the same time they would be undercutting their own market on lower segment.

Not that I agree with nvidias prices at all, I think anything over £300 for GPU is ridiculous but others don't seem to mind. If it wasn't selling at that price then they wouldn't have been charging so much.

Maybe once AMD brings some competition they will drop a bit.

I understand exactly how business works hence my comment regarding cost price. We don't know their cost price, we don't know their margin, we don't know how many they are selling or how many they could make. It's all speculation, this could just be their halo product sold at cost to improve brand image. However a perfectly valid business practice is to weigh up profit per unit versus volume you can shift at a given retail price. Taking less profit per card but selling five times as many is a tactic used every day.

I'm sure if Nvidia could sell a million people a £300 1080Ti making £50 a card they would. More likely they can only make 100,000 and make a £100 profit per card. (Not real figures b before any pedants arrive!). Besides which as we both agree but many people can or will spend £700+ on GPU.

Competition may help but unless we know their margin and their production capacity we can only guess. If course dropping that cards price then knocks on to the margins on all the lower tier cards. There is of course always the concept of the loss leader but I don't expect that's used too much in this industry.

As far I can see prices are really different each day/stock affected. As I do plan Buy 1080ti I would like to pay good price for it but in right time. Aorus is for around 710 in UK online shops atm and its something what I do like to buy. Price wise week ago this card was above 750 or pre-order 780ish. Now price is really attractive and I do think If I should go for it or still wait. No rush for me and whats your opinion and price range this card can be. At CoUk this card is for 719 from 788 which is 69£ in around week. How much it can get down or up? I know its tricky question but for person who don't wanna rush with GPU upgrade its important.

I think the Aorus is a really good deal, they probably priced it down to shift some stock since most people went for Strix despite their price & ridiculous warranty policy.

I mean, cmon, why is cooler removal for things like paste replacement will void warranty? That is so last century, yet customers still pay for them so what do I know.

But the Aorus normal is a beast of a card and is superb for the price.

@Gibbo Hey man, I am RMA'ing a ZOTAC Amp card I got - Had an issue where I was waiting for the inno3d ichill x3 to come into stock, changed my order to the amp, then the INNO came back into stock :(

Would you be able to do anything for me in regards to getting the INNO at the £719.99 price point? Any idea when your stock will land?

Should see the mark up ASUS puts on their products at trade price then then price it jumps through for resellers .. ouch , but people will pay more for less warranty over Aorus or Zotac lol

Just spotted that today the GTX1080 TI Aorus XE is £679.99 from a well known Large online retailer, if you do a search. ;)
