Which one do you use and what are the advantages of display Port over HDMI

HDMI don't do 144HZ on my GPU, DP for me
HDMI used to work fine on my 144hz screen
I am now using 60hz but a higher 4K resolution works fin e with HDMI also, could not get DP to work

hdmi 2 will work at 144 hz but not at 4k, or work at 4k but not at more than 60hz, limits are much lower for hdmi 1.4 24fps for example
display port started with many fewer limitations and had no licensing requirement, now hdmis has nearly caught up they have moved to yet higher specification ahead of hdmi
At the moment if you plan for using displayport you will have more options, have chance to use freesync/g-sync, can daisy chain some monitors off one cable etc if they support displayport mst

Ahead of your time if you were using HDMI in the 90s..
Main System uses Displayport to monitor, Panel will only do 100hz and G-Sync that way. Secondary AV source gets fed via HDMI from the GPU also.
HTPC: uses Displayport 1.2 to active HDMI 2.0 adapter into the TV. Use the R9 Nano which at the time was perfect size, had full water block and offered decent power, but AMD totally screwed up by not implementing HDMI 2.0

Ahh yeah it didn't hit the market till after Y2K did it, my bad.
He probably said that because the video portion of HDMI is identical to DVI, which was released in 1999. HDMI came out in 2002. DisplayPort is already 9 years old too!
