Hi All,

Here is my current setup
Core i5 2500K @ 4.5 1.385v|MSI P67A-GD53 (B3 Rev)
Corsair Dominator 4 x 4GB 1600Mhz|GPU: Palit GTX 1070 Super Jetstream
Corsair 950TX|3x24" Monitors|Custom Water cooled

I am looking at an Intel i7 7700k i think (want to stay with Intel sorry)
looking at possibly a Z270 board (Again not sure what one)
staying with my GPU Palit GTX 1070 Super Jetstream

Is it worth upgrading from i5 2500k to i7 7700, I do game but mostly lower game stuff ie not FPS
also will my waterblock transfare from an i5 to i7 i presume it will (EK-Supreme HF - Full Nickel)

suggestions would appreciated

hold out till the 5th- coffee lake boards will be out to buy- although stock might be low for the cores , so if your going intel- finger on the trigger

coffeelake you get 2 cores added across the family- i5 8600k might be good value and still should out perform 2nd gen intels. 3rd gen and above is when little gains were produced from each release

Why is it upgrade time, what problems do you see with your current system.

I have a very similar system, upgraded the GPU, CPU and MB soon. I'm upgrading as my XP11 FPS and other sims can be 15-20 FPS and obviously looking for better single thread speed. Also itching to do a build as not done one in 7 years!

I recently did the exact same as the OP.

I held onto my 2500k for a long time simply because CSGO was my main game and I didn't need to upgrade however following PUBG release I finally felt like I needed more grunt.

I went from the 2500k to 7700k and very happy with the performance increase. 2nd hand 7700Ks are quite common on the mm, definitely would say pick one up 2nd hand over buying new!

Then you are looking at 8600k or 8700k, depends on your budget, plenty info out there. Custom water cool up to about 4.8 (mid 80's C) then you would be looking to delid to go higher, at least I think that's the numbers, check 8-packs video in case I am wrong.

There are also benchmarks for 7600/7700/8600/8700 vs 2500 or 2600k too so you should be able to see what to expect. I think you won't be disappointed.
