Thanks guys. Any must have places to eat? Devils Advocate looks good. We like expensive, but not posh, if that makes sense? We loved OXO in London and Roast too, so plenty of vibe and atmosphere, but doesn't matter if that's ££££

If you want somewhere a bit queieter but with excellent food then Michael Neave sounds like it would fit the bill nicely. Also off ghe beaten track so less likely to be full of tourists.

Or try Angels with Bagpipes on the Royal mile - can be a bit touristy.

If you like Indian food you can't go wrong eating at Dishoom on St Andrews Square...not cheap but not formal or fussy either and the food rarely disappoints. The Permit bar within is a destination in itself and open until 3 am at the weekend I believe. Also heard only good things about the recently opened Ivy on the square.. For late night shenanigans in an interesting environment with quality spirits, alcoholic slushies, custom cocktails and good vibes try Hoot the Redeemer on Hanover Street...thank me later ;)

I would scrap Mary Kings Close and instead book yourself on a Mercat Tour. Either do the Secrets of the Royal Mile and include the Castle ticket or the Historic Underground tour. Both are excellent but I think the latter is slightly better. I found Mary Kings to be too aimed at kids when I did it earlier this year.

/edit - Also, if you're going up Arthur's Seat, make sure you turn left at the ice cream van at the bottom. I went right and found out afterwards that I'd inadvertently picked the trickiest route up out of all of them. The path to the left is basically a nice gentle track almost all the way to the top and is easy.

The Stand comedy club in Queen street will likely have something on. http://www.thestand.co.uk/whats-on/Edinburgh

As above, The Stand Comedy club will be a good bet.

You might be pressed to fit in Holyrood Palace on the Saturday with your other activities. Would switch to the Sunday since it is right next to Arthur's Seat. Go to the Palace (check out the Parliament building too just across the road), wander through Holyrood Park round the back of Arthur's Seat to Dunsapie Loch, and then walk up to the summit from there.

Dyanamic Earth is also right next to the Palace/Parliament.
