Simple Excel question??

Hopefully a simple question for experienced Excel users if I may?

What would I need to do if I wanted to highlight a row of data in a certain colour based on the contents of a cell within that row? For example, for row 1 of a spreadsheet. if the contents of cell C1 is "Y", I'd like cells A1, B1, C1. D1 to be shaded in green.

I've got a spreadsheet in front of me that does this but I've checked the conditional formatting and there's nothing in there to cover this.

Thank you

Update, I've just tried playing around with my example, deleting some of the info / ancillary worksheets, and it looks like this has been done in Visual Basic. Time to research!

Thanks, yes, I'm on my way to figuring this out now and retro-fitting it to my own sheet. Would be good if there was a non-VB way if anyone knows? Trying not to have any security pop-ups etc to avoid freaking people out.

It should be possible just with conditional formatting. The bit I always find awkward is getting the conditional formatting formula for a cell to refer to its own contents.

Thanks all.

This is winding me up.

Used the following formula =C1="Y"
Applied to =$A$1:$E$1

But when I put "Y" in C1 it only floods A1 in green

Can anyone see where this is going wrong?

Thank you
