Question re hard drive caddy

For some reason I have a spare 4TB WD Green 3.5 internal hard drive which I have just discovered this morning. I was toying with the idea of buy a 4TB external USB3 drive so I'm glad I found it!

If I bought a caddy for this internal drive and connected it to my iMac via USB would that in effect turn it into a external drive?

If so any recommendations?

Or get one thats Mac coloured if you prefer.

Make sure your iMac has USB3, if it only has USB2 the HDD won't be able to run at its full speed.

WD Green 3.5 internal hard drive

I strongly recommend using wdidle3 to set LLC to 300 seconds to prevent excessive Load Cycles.

The green drives are only good as backup drives - they're slow & don't put out much noise.
