Hi guys..

I have laid my hands on a couple of sticks of

Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (PVI38G160C9K)

My current machine is running two

G.Skill Ares 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel

To my untrained eyes they both read as the same
PC3-12800C9 1600MHz

My question is will they work nicely with each other and give me 16gb of RAM..

cheers..

They will 100% work fine together as you have found out. The only thing that will happen is if the timings are slightly different between the modules, the mobo will default all timings to the slowest out of them all.
This is not an issue at all, and for most people they wouldn't even notice the change.

Original where C8 Timings, newer ones are C9. If you check the part of your post where u mention your untrained eye, they are both running at C9 now. So basically, all good don't worry and enjoy the extra memory capacity.

Thanks for that info bifday2K.

I never thought about the latency timings, if that's right. Will have to read up on those.

I have noticed a slight speed up on certain tasks. Which is nice.

Just did a bit of research and got some latency info

Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (PVI38G160C9K)

Latency (9-9-9-24)

G.Skill Ares 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel

Latency 9-9-9-24-2N

To me they look virtually identical at 9-9-9-24. not sure what the extra -2N is on the Gskill.
