Better price on insurance?

Anyone able to point in the direction of a better company who may be able to help with my comically high insurance quotes? I'm looking at buying a Focus RS but insurance is coming in at around 1500-1600 per year. A bit of a joke! I live in a "high risk" part of London (historically high risk, now full of families and it's a good area), but I'm 29, 11 years no claims, low risk occupation etc, car is parked in a very secure car park with an alarm, 2 immobilisers and a dash cam.

Tried all the common ones, Adrian Flux, Aviva, all of the compare the market ones and they're all incredibly high.

Any other lesser known insurers who may specialise in higher risk cars?

Try brentacre. The online comparison sites were giving me quotes of around 1k but they sorted insurance for me on a similar car to yours for just under 600. My personal details are similar to yours regarding age, location etc.

Also add a named driver, depending on your age and the car it has reduced it even further for me , I put my dad as named driver for m last car and it dropped by £500, yet I had to take him off recently for my new car as it was cheaper having a couples policy and just my wife as named driver

The specialist ones like Greenlight have limitations, like only up to 20k value and 15000 miles per year. But you do get better prices and terms than the big insurers.

On the road....
Or...suck it up! Also how do you know you have a low risk occupation? Those things are mysteries!
Indeed.

I’m 47, a professional HGV driver with an accident free record and 14years NCB yet my tracker fitted £6500 e38 735i is still ~ £600 f/c with an agreed value and limited (7.5k p/a) miles. (its insured with Adrian Flux)

All things considered I’d say the OP’s quote given his age, location and the type of car is more or less ballpark about right tbh.

Considered a tracker? I have one on my Monaro & that took about £500 off the insurance when I activated it. I didn't have it installed, that was the previous owner, I think they cost around £500 to get installed and £143 a year, whilst the first year equals out any savings off the insurance every year thereafter will be a saving. Might be more of a saving with a Focus RS as they are one of the very stolen vehicles and so a tracker would certainly help in locating it.

I'm insured with Elephant insurance on a multicar policy (Monaro VXR & Focus ST) who advised me to take other drivers off the policy (I always thought it would help having more on a policy), did that and got more savings.

Any possibility of keeping it in a garage, even renting one? Although I suspect the cost of that would be more than the insurance saving, especially in London.

Thanks for the replies all. Yes moving house did pass by my thoughts, London is too bloody expensive! My flat has secure underground parking. In comparison to the average garage it's far more secure with all of it's cameras and security gates. A garage in London will set you back minimum £200 a month, so counter intuitive.

Re low risk occupation, I have read around and my occupation lists as one of the best (and according to one site the absolute best) occupation to have for car insurance. Is there truth in this? Who knows, it is on the internet...

I'll call all of the ones above that have been mentioned. Since starting this thread I've got Admiral to get me down to £1300, but they've told me a multi-car policy could help anywhere £100-£500 off. My parents are happy to help out here if the premium is reasonable, so this may help considerably. In addition the dealer has knocked another £15 a month off the car, which will help soften the blow a little on the insurance.

Tracker, no way in hell I'd fit a black box, I wouldn't buy a Focus RS to drive like those boxes would want you to. However, a quick quote on Compare The Market shows a proper vehicle tracker (the stolen car type) doesn't touch the premium by more than a few quid per year.

Insurance makes such little sense....

People meant a telemetrics box, just a standard tracker. Out of interest, what job do you do, could it be relocated somewhere cheaper?
