As the title states, would an upgrade from a 4790K to a Ryzen 7 2700 be worth it for gaming in 4K, or would the 4790K suffice for a little bit longer?

I enjoy games like BF1 and Ghost Recon Wildlands, which could be regarded as very CPU intensive.

Cheers

I game at 4K with those games, not a big fan of wildlands, but defo battlefield 1 and sniper elite 4, im using a Ryzen 2700X on an X470 motherboard with an ASUS 1070 8gb OC and an ASUS 28" 4K monitor, I set high settings and get 60fps, no need for ultra on 4K.

A RyZen 2700 is going to bury a Haswell Refresh

For gaming going to Ryzen will be a back words step with you running @4.7 Pretty disappointing with Ryzen to be honest due to its average boost. After a couple of weeks with a 2700X and then going back to my 8700K at a proper sustained 4.8 on all cores eats Ryzen for breakfast. Night and Day, don't believe the hype unless you like playing Cinebench....

At 4k, the main determinant of FPS is going to be the gpu.
An overclocked 4790k is going to be okay for at least the next 12 months or so.

At 4k it's more the GPU in play.

Personally I think the i7 still has some legs at 4k. If you can get a decent amount for your i7, mobo and RAM then it's worth the extra outlay for a 2700x setup. You'll need new mobo and DDR4 RAM for a 2700x setup but 8 cores will serve you better long term than the i7.

It's hard to ignore that "itch" though isn't it :D

If it’s a choice between a 2700x and a 8700K then the 87K wins hands down for gaming, for now and the long term. 2700X max boost is very misleading.

:D You need to do some proper research and find some actual 4K benchmarks/reviews for BF1 etc. Then you might come back with a different opinion. ;)

I play BF1 all the time at 4k on a RyZen 2700x lol, played it last year on a RyZen 1700 and before that on a 4770K, every other person on here knows that pretty much any game at 4K is GPU dependant not CPU, and that's why when they are testing CPUs and benching them in reviews etc, they run ultra low resolution, to remove the GPU from the equation, otherwise the end result is based on who has the better GPU (nVidia / AMD) not the better CPU.

You're obviously not aware that these two statements by you contradict each other...

...every other person on here knows that pretty much any game at 4K is GPU dependant not CPU...

A RyZen 2700 is going to bury a Haswell Refresh

So, as you point out that pretty much any game at 4K is GPU dependant how on earth will a 2700 'bury' a Haswell refresh in 4K gaming? Or maybe you're talking about encoding when everybody else is talking about 4K gaming! As this is the only kind of scenario that would make your 'bury' statement remotely correct.

Show me some figures / percentages, even ones that you have done to back up this 'bury'. ;)
