Society has been deconstructed/constructed in such a way that many of the things which kept couples together no longer exist, a good deal of that has to do with the march of feminism and the far left, casting aside of religious institutions, developments in birth control, womens career choices, vilification of the 'middle-aged white man' and so on. Shortly they're now paying for a world they helped create, knowingly or otherwise.
