Zotac might be skimping on their vram pads like on their 1080 ti. Complete disaster. Also note that for the last 2 years of your warranty if you have an issue you'd have to RMA the card to Asia. Yeah...

You can get a decent Gigabyte 1080 for £450 tho.

Yes saw that but it's £120 more than the FTW2 1080 I'm looking at

TBF,a GTX1080 might do the job. I did a review of my GTX1080FE last year at qHD and compared it to an RX470 4GB:

https://forums.hexus.net/reader-rev...dventure-gtx1080-fin-now-moar-benchmarks.html

I only have an IB Core i7 so could be a bit CPU limited, but you have a Core i7 4790K and the FE is slower than the aftermarket cards. Either way it will be a big upgrade over a GTX970,but a GTX1080TI will even be bigger and you get 11GB of VRAM too.

I have no idea how much ram my 1080 has.....its that important. :p googling....

What games do you actually play? Could try some maxed out. :)

At the moment it's rainbow six seige, project cars 2, wolfenstein and I wanna get into watch dogs 2 which runs poorly on my current setup.

Best choice for 1440p is the 1080Ti. The luxury choice is the 2080Ti. (Unless it's only a 60Hz panel). 1070s and 1080s are Ok though for <80fps gaming.

Apologise for hijack but in a similar position to OP. Do you mean the 1080Ti is best choice for 1440p if it is above 60hz and that 1080 would be fine for a 1440p 60hz screen? I almost bought a 1080ti at the weekend then hesitated when I thought a 1080 would do the job as I'm not really playing any demanding games at all. Just thinking of a couple of years down the line.

It depends what you want for gaming Tachyon. What resolution and desired FPS do you want to play at?

I've a 1440p 60hz screen that I'll be using for the forseeable future. I'm guessing anything over 60fps isn't of much benefit on a 60hz screen so a 1080 would be ok for my use. Just wasn't sure if a 1080ti would be worth the extra or not.

The 1080 I had my eye on has gone to pre order, maybe its a sign not to upgrade just yet. Maybe just maybe the 2070 will come in at around the £550 mark and be in between a 1080ti and 1080...id get that.

I've got a 144htz 1440p monitor and want to look at getting closer to that refresh rate note regularly.

(My 1070 gets nowhere near it)

Having just secured a new job im going to treat myself at some point, is the 2080ti overkill? I'm not planning to upgrade my monitor as I like it

Wouldn’t say it’s over kill and if you can afford it go for it. The 1080ti will get you high FPS but the 2080ti will really push the monitor to its max.

Me personally I wouldn’t say £600+ is worth it for the extra FPS at 1440p over the 1080ti.

A 1080 is a very good card for 60fps 1440p. It won't run everything at 60 max settings though. A 1080Ti is very good for 1440p > 100fps gaming.

Seen another 1080, a Gigabyte but the clock speeds are much slower than other ones, although it is going for £440. Having thought about it I could sell my 970 for £90 and the Destiny 2 game for £20 giving me £110.... then get the Arous 1080 T1 for £620 (which will have cost me £510 really)

Went for the Gigabyte AORUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti :) I played Seige last night and lowered the FXAA render Scaling to just 1080p so I could see what 100+ FPS looks like on my monitor..... it's bloomin' nice! A 1080 wouldn't be able to do that so decided to get the 1080 Ti.

I partially thought about the 2080RTX but can't justify £800 for a GPU

I run a 1080 ti overclocked to 2Ghz\12Ghz and an 8700k overclocked to 5Ghz ON 1440P/165hz G-Sync monitor and don't think it's overkill. But then I like to run AAA games fully maxed out. If you are happy to turn the settings down to high you'll have no problems with a 1080 non-ti.

My 1080 ran every game I played with max ultra settings no problem, coupled with an i7 6700k 4.6ghz you dont need to turn settings down.
