I'm upgrading my gaming PC, re-using my case, gtx1080 and psu..

I've decided to go all out with a 9900k, but unsure which mobo, ram and cpu cooler to get? I presume my current cooler on my 2700k isnt compatible?

I guess I'd like an M2 superfast SSD too - I currently have a 1tb SSD but its not an M2 one.

Budget of 1k max,

thanks

Are you not missing the 9900k here? Has the OP already got one?

Pure gaming, sell gtx 1080 . Ditch the nvme as makes no difference .
I7 9700k equals 9900k in most gaming cases due to games not being well coded for multiple cores/threads

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,353.01 (includes shipping: £11.10)

Is the cpu part of the budget ?

What cooler do you currently have ?

As mentioned by Orbital above, I wouldn't bother with an NVMe SSD. Unless you are moving lots of large files around it won't make a massive difference for things like gaming or boot times etc. I would just stick another 1TB SATA SSD in there (Samsung 860 EVO) if you need more SSD space.

Any of the Gigabyte Aorus Z390 boards are a good choice if going with the 9900K. For cooling you will need to decide between a high end air cooler such as the BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 4 or a good water cooler like the Alphacool Eisbaer LT 360mm or BeQuiet Silent Loop 360mm etc. Of course your case needs to be able to accommodate either cooler.

You can't really go wrong with Ram. Any 3000MHz or above kit will be fine. I would stick with 3000 - 3200 as it can get expensive going with a kit higher than that. Just stick with low profile ram if going with a big air cooler i.e Corsair LPX or Team Group Vulcan T-Force etc.

thank you for the gretat advice all.

One thing I would question - somebody mentioned selling my gtx1080 and getting an rtx2080 - I would have thought the 1080 was still plenty? I run at 1440p at the moment but 144hz
