what i am trying to do is to sort them into alphabetical order by the street name, problem is, the numbers before the street and i cant find out how to do it

i'd like this:

120 Moss Side terrace
123 BLAMEY AVENUE
14 HILLVIEW CRESCENT
142 Stenhouse Place

to become this:

123 BLAMEY AVENUE
14 HILLVIEW CRESCENT
120 Moss Side terrace
142 Stenhouse Place

any ideas?

A quick Google shows that other sites suggest as I did.

Is it 50 rows or 50 documents?

It takes seconds to insert 2 columns. Then you can have a pre written formula to paste into each top cell. First cell formula would select out the number of the address, the second cell for the text. The drag /copy / paste them down the column.

Once filled then sort the normal way against the text only column.

Less than 30 seconds to do that if you have the formulas in a text file to copy from.
