Would i be correct in saying that i an upgrade a win 7 home premium license to a win 10 basic license by just downloading and using the the win 10 basic instal via usb.
The reason i ask is im looking to take my brothers old compaq presario cq57, swap out the mech hdd ( as it sounds like a severly fualty jet engine) with an ssd and just put in a fresh win install.

Yes, swapping out the drive only will not require a new licence, just install Windows 10 on it and it will activate itself when it gets online.

Great now i just need to remmber where i found the offical win 10 usb creation tool thing again, last time i did it was when win 10 came out
