My D90 dropped and focus motor is broken, and I also have a d3100 which i am really struggling to get a consistent quality out of, and the focus is atrocious.

So looking for a replacement and a new D3500 is about the same price as a used D7100. Which would be better suited purely for product photos for an ecommerce site.

The D7XXX series is a big step above the D3XXX series, they are much better cameras in a lot of ways that aren't obvious just from the spec sheet, the handling is much better and I would definitely recommend them over the D3500.

For product photos they will perform similarly.

The 7100 is better (controls and focus) but I think the sensors are very similar.

You may prefer the middle 5xxx cameras with tilting screens.

I was very happy with my 7100 (stolen and replaced with D500)
