I was going to start a thread about something I just heard, but thought maybe we ought to have something like the TV/move/book threads? There are podcast mentions all over the place, but no 'catch all' thread that I could find. If there's one already feel free to use it instead though... I probably need a podcast to help me navigate these forums. :)

Anyway, I listen to a lot of podcasts, but the specific episode I was looking to recommend this time was...

https://soundcloud.com/user-1077961...-esteem-a-conversation-with-interview-special interviewing Will Storr on his book "Selfie" from a couple of years ago. I found it genuinely fascinating, but felt the need to boost my self esteem by telling others about it to prove what a clever little soul I am for 'finding' it. Bit of a Catch22 thing going on here.

For what it's worth, the previous Lovejoy podcast depressed the doodah out of me. It was with a really nice, sensible, decent sounding woman who's made a living at the cutting edge of digital marketing. After that I felt like cancelling my internet access. This week I was glad I hadn't.

I've been working my way though Adam Buxton's podcasts recently. I'm on about episode 52 of 100.

There are good interviews with musicians and comedians, people like Johnny Greenwood, Brian Eno, Steve Coogan etc plus Adam is pretty funny in general.

I listen to them on Spotify.

I started a thread for true crime podcasts a couple of months back as these are my staple.

Some others I have enjoyed recently:
The Evolution of Horror
Star Calls

Wish i was in a Ramen Shop Counter
Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard.

I first thought it was just a chat with some famous people but in reality there are a lot of talks with many true experts from all walks of life. Cancer specialist to Harvard Professors to comedians and musicians. Each brings a different field and perspective and knowledge. I feel like I learn a lot from people talking on their life struggles and experiences. It is very insightful and often makes me think what is important in life, almost like a session with a therapist at times.

Kermode and Mayo film review

Best movie review IMO.

Gamescoop

Weekly computer games round up and chat, no reviews, actually more retro game chat than anything else.

Abroad In Japan

A Brit in Japan talking about life in Japan.

Not sure I'm into Podcasts yuet, as it's not easy work listening (Web Developer) but I take the time to catch up on the F1 Beyond The Grid podcast with Tom Clarkson. Gets very interesting guests past and present, not just the current drivers. Some great stories.

Other onees are Gossipmongers (currently on hiatus but crudely funny) and Help I Sexted My Boss.

Infinite Monkey Cage
Science discussion show in BBC Radio 4 with Brian Cox and Robin Ince, very insightful and I can pretend I know about science a little bit now :p

Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast
Insanely childish yet superbly charming and funny podcast with some great guests to boot.

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History
Great historical podcast, especially the 'Blueprint to Armageddon' series which explores the events that lead up to and occur during WWI.

I listen to Richard Herring Rhlstp.
Buxton as well.
Scroobius Pip - distraction pieces.
Have the blindboy podcast on my to do list.
For movie deep dives I really enjoy The Rewatchables podcast.

However it was a chance mention of a podcast by one of Buxton's guests (Greta Gerwig IIRC) which he came back to at the end of the episode in his little wrap up to explain what it was about. He said it was like him and Joe back in the day. So I went and looked it up ... and fell in love with it immediately. So much so that I sidelined all other podcasts until I had listened to all back episodes ( there are ~600 ) which are being made at a rate of 1 a week. I am at episode 550 after 18 months. I even got to see them live at Montreal this summer a few weeks ago at Just For Laughs.

It's called Stop Podcasting Yourself and it's very sarky funny banter with a rotating guest to keep things fresh.

Richard Herring and the Kermode and Mayo film review mainly. That's all I get time for on my 25min tube journey as I like to listen to music too.

Worthy mentions to Romesh Ranganathan's Hip Hop show, that's good. And The Treatment which is a great in depth chat with filmmakers.

Nothing to suggest at the moment, but seeing so many mentions of Adam Buxton's excellent podcast reminds me that his is one of very few podcasts I don't skip the adverts on; they're nearly always genius. His affectionate parody of Ira Glass/This American Life is so good it's more art than advert.

Hang on, I will make a recommendation, but I it's a bit "Women's Hour" and risky for this neck of the woods. Fi Glover and Jane Garvey's 'Fortunately' podcast ought to be objectionable and twee, being two middle class BBC types chatting to whoever they fancy a natter with this week, but it's better and less reverential than I expected.

Maybe being brought up in my mother's hairdressing salon means I'm just a bit more partial to eavesdropping on women gossiping than most blokes, but... well, this podcast's in my "good company on a bad day" category, along with Buxton's.

I quite like listening to BBC's Beyond Today which in their own words is 'One big question about one big story from the news - and beyond - every weekday. '

It's a good insight and often goes in more depth from serious to light hearted news stories. i.e. Soldiers first hand experience in Afghanistan to Source of viral WhatsApp message about surprise £15,000 wine bill at The Shard.

Regulars include:
- Daniel and Jorge explain the universe; Two men, Daniel and Jorge, explain the universe...
- Behind the B**tards; Talks about some of histories biggest gimps, often quite interesting
- Athletico Mince; Bob Mortimer and Andy someone talk absolute rubbish, it's marketed as a football podcast but I hate football and love this podcast, YMMMV though.

On my list are;

- Adam Buxton - Great interviews. Recently had Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse which is probably my favourite interview he has done, great listening. Have listened since Radio 6 etc
- Elis James and Jon Robbins - Now on Five Live after transferring from Radio X
- Off Menu Podcast with James Acasater, Ed Gamble + Guest
- Gossip Mongers - Not released often enough, incredibly funny if that is your type of humour. Wouldn't suggest listening to with you Gran!
- Fighting Talk - Five Live sports quiz hosted by Colin Murray plus guests
- Frank Skinner on Absolute - Force of habbit more then anything i suppose. Light listening and occasionally funny. Emily Deane can get a bit grating
- Jason Manford on Absolute - Again, light listening, occasionally funny but can get a bit repetitive and anecdotes repeated if you have listed to it for a while.

Listened to a mini series called Finding Drago.

Absolutely amazing, all I can say is that it follows the search for an author who wrote a book based on the life of Ivan Drago after his fight with Rocky.

Twists and turns galore, laugh out loud moments, and really easy to listen to.
