Cant remember password when setting up phone

Long story short, my Dad bought a new iPhone (XR?) and, when setting up his phone, has put in an old email address by mistake

To finish setting up the phone its asking for him to confirm the email address, which is an issue as he can't access the old account (password is long gone and recovery didnt seem to work)

Any ideas how to hard factory reset the phone so he can do it with the right email address?

If it was set up to an iCloud account you need the original credentials to be able to reset the phone.
