I have an i5 4670k and im planning to upgrade and want to go with AMD this time round.

I want to be set for the next 4-5 years.
Use my PC for mainly gaming and some video editing and uni work.

I have it narrowed down to the R5 3600x and R7 3700x.

Will the 3600x be more than enough or will the 3700x be a better option for future proof.

either the 3600 or the 3700x...wouldn't recommend the 3600x.
which chip is more appropriate depends on your build/budget.

For 4-5 years without CPU upgrades I would recommend 3700X.
Video editing can use extra cores already now and next-gen consoles coming with underclocked 3700X will kick start game development into looking for ways to utilize high number of strong cores.

I would recommend the 3700X, despite having a 3600 myself, I've decided to upgrade other bits together + full custom watercooler. But my upgrades are quite often, so not a bad thing going for a 3600 at the moment.
