Face unlock only being supported by like 5 apps is ridiculous, when Apple switched to Face ID everything that supported Touch ID was automatically supported. For most apps on the new Pixel's you're going to be typing in passwords again.

There are some great things about the Pixel 4 XL, the camera, the 90hz display, super fast face unlock. But those are all I can think of. Unfortunately the negatives seem to outweigh the positives for this phone.

Intrigued to see some proper camera testing though, really want to see how the Pixel 4 XL fairs going up against other flagships

That is mental, I thought it would just be an API or something that was common to the various biometrics systems.

It could literally be months until its widely supported.

I haven't looked beyond the Verge review, but GSuite users getting shafted again by the new assistant not being available?

It looks like the P4 is pretty much exactly what you'd expect it to be from the leaks, no surprises. A solid entry, but glad I opted for a Note10 to tide me over until the xxxx next year...

There or thereabouts has been the opinion on the reviews I have watched so far. Not ahead, up there with the best.

yeah that was always a given really, its known in general for having the best mobile camera's since the pixel 2. And I believe in general with each year, most people have said the Pixel 2 and pixel 3 had the best camera's for those years they were out. But with other companies improving massively recently, I wonder if Pixel 4 is still the king of the hill

Read my mind.

That's not to say that I don't think the 4 is a bad phone, far from it. You choose an iPhone or Pixel, you're going to get great software and great photos. But it's clear iPhone has caught up so it's much of a muchness on that front. Google need to work a bit harder on the battery front. Is that due to with the 4 being the first main Pixel phone the HTC team has worked on being the issue? I think it could be. Maybe after another year of working together they can get it right.

Glad I held off ordering. Think I'll just get the screen on my 2XL fixed and hang on to it for a while longer...

Looks like the battery on both devices is pretty poor.

I've ordered, I have a need for a decent camera with a young family now. Moving from a OnePlus 6 - the camera is to disappointing and I've tried to like the 7 pro but again it's to hit and miss.

I've been thinking about moving over to the iPhone 11 but can't get along with iOS.

I have a Pixel 3. If this had a ultra wide at least I would have snapped it up. No biggie anyhow. P3 still does me fine.

Looks like proper API support was only added in Android 10.

Though looks like if apps were built against the Android 9 SDK it should also work, just developers not keeping up to date.

I don't think Google force devs to support certain SDK's like Apple do.

They really should IMO, but I can't see it...

I'm not blaming Google for this but it's yet another thing one can use against it.

I kinda wish I didn't *need* a new phone right now, because if I hadn't I'd strongly be considering keeping my 2XL at this stage. Pretty much all of the phones out right now have some quirk that makes it a little less desirable.

It is Google's fault, they shouldn't allow developers to not support the latest API's, they should be ensuring apps support the latest features.

Starting April, 2020, all iPhone and iPad apps submitted to the App Store will need to be built with the iOS 13 SDK or later. They must also support the all-screen design of iPhone XS Max or the 12.9-inch iPad Pro (3rd generation), or later.

Apple doesn't allow situations like what's going to happen with the Pixel 4 from happening, having the only form of biometrics on the device not have widespread support is bad.
