Hi,

Can you recommend the best GPU for just windows desktop usage (4K monitor).

Mainly Visual Studio / Chrome kinds of workloads.

No gaining.

Looking into a Ryzen 3700x so need some kind of graphics card.

Thanks

If you are just using it for display output and going new, the GT1030 is probably the cheapest one on overclockers that will do 4K60 from the look of it, via HDMI. The GT730 suggests (the 2GB version, at least) that 4K is supported but I think that will only do 4K30 as it doesnt have HDMI 2.0 output, only a 1.4, I believe.

Something cheapish then...

Looks like the dirt-cheap GT710s won't do it, and it looks like the GT730 won't either, or might if you can use displayport (if the card has it?)

I'd go for a GT 1030 or an AMD rx550, whichever you find cheaper.

just looked at the price of them wow - i'm sure i got one for like £30, might be a different card.

Second hand the GT1030 & the rx550 can both be picked up for about £30/35. The right RX550, will be passive until under load but when under load is about 40% faster than a 1030. I sold one of my many rx550's (an xfx which was passive under desktop clocks) last week for £35.

Can confirm the GT710 1GB model won't do 4K 60Hz. Even 4K 30Hz YouTube it could not do smoothly but it can OC a lot and will play 4K 30Hz fine, albeit 90% GPU usage. I know as I had it running whilst choosing a card for my Ryzen system

Thanks guys!

I'd half picked a 710 so good save. Will get a 1030.
Note that more recent GT 1030s have cheaper out and used DDR3 instead of GDDR5. There's a big performance drop - maybe not relevant to you but if both variants are available at the same price, why get the worse card?
