Man of Honour
IIRC I paid £30 for my bed.
Paying £2K for a frame to put a mattress on is a bit silly unless you have so much spare money that £2K is a trivial amount.
Paying as much as you can afford for a mattress, yes. For a bed, no. Having said that, the best mattress I've had cost me about £80 from B&M. 8 inch thick memory foam. Gloriously comfortable and lasted years before getting too saggy. I've improvised by folding a memory foam topper lengthwise, putting it in the middle (where the sag is) and putting another topper over the combo, but I'm going to be getting a new mattress when I try one out that I like. The improvised measure is adequate, but it's only an interim measure. I'll stretch to £500 for a mattress, but only if I think it's worth that much to me.
