Too expensive. You have comparable TVs nearer the £400-500 range (Hisense U7BUK, Sony XG70 etc.) OR you have something many leagues above it at £800, Sony XF90. Note: below the XF90 ignore any mention of HDR, it doesn't exist even though it's advertised, it's all smoke and mirrors because the capability of actually showing HDR isn't there (local dimming etc).

XG70 ordered (only £445!) I'll report back when it arrives.

I’m looking to change a Panasonic DX902 for a Samsung Q90 (both 65”). Is this a decent upgrade please?

Also looking to get a 5700XT soon. Can I run games at 1440p okay on a Q90?

Can anyone kindly recommend the best 32” tv for a smaller room, primarily used for gaming. There seems to be plethora of choices.

I have a LG OLED C9 (55) in the lounge and would preferably like something of a similar quality.

Not much of an upgrade, but that's a bit subjective. You'd see a more stark difference if you jumped to an OLED or a TV of a bigger size. 5700 XT won't have any issues with 1440p in general.

For 32" you need to look at monitors as all TVs in that size are pretty much crap. As for it (any 32") being similar in quality to a C9 - not even a little bit close. Granted, if you forget about HDR then there's a lot of decent ultrawides to be had around that size. I'd think maybe of getting one of those.

Such disappointment from 2020 TV lineups across the board. Were they betting on the Olympics and the Euro to sell us overpriced crappy lcds and oleds lacking basic features? Can't believe that the year that two major events were supposed to take place plus next gen consoles we didn't get some amazing new sets.

seems to be a confusing line up
the 900 does 4k@120, 950 doesn't ? https://www.flatpanelshd.com/article.php?subaction=showfull&id=1584090006
the 950 has the x-wide viewing angle , 900 doesn't https://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1578348000

I was trying to find out how many zones they have, but couldn't find that are they a MALD , or FALD - adopting mild term from hybrid cars

They're both fald and I'd bet the same number of zones, afaik it's 48 but waiting for confirmation. Basically the way they're differentiating is you get one for HDMI 2.1 or the other for wider viewing angles (particularly useful for going to 75" & up). There's also different processors for both but I tend to ignore that as it's mostly just hype at this point, for Sony.

It's really just a refresh of last year's XG95 & XF90 combo. For gamers the 4K 120 10bit RGB & VRR are gonna be real differentiators but for just movies & TV - whatever. Buy one of the remaining XF90s while they're cheap.

Can't believe that the year that two major events were supposed to take place plus next gen consoles we didn't get some amazing new sets.

It was always gonna play out this way. OLEDs peaked 2-3 years ago, now they're just refreshing and adding minor software features to differentiate year to year. LCDs had their margins shot to hell & the high end variants are very expensive to make and likely not so much demand (doing ZD9s and the like). Hence they're all just doing refreshes as well and trying to sell you on "design" and some other BS like Samsung does. There's still two ways to grow for LCDs though, it's just that they're still not ready for prime time from the big guys (Dual layer on the one hand, and Mini LED on the other).

The other stuff like microLED is still just pipe dreams (excluding actually paying millions for one).

Sadly I can't say I'm confident next year will be better, I think we won't see any new decent products until 2022 (on the LCD side). On the OLED side it's pretty good atm overall, not much to say or hope for, except maybe some more price drops on 77" and above but they're getting there as well.

We notified all of our A9H pre order customers that Sony has canceled this series and will continue the A9G through the balance of the 2020 model year and that Sony will continue to develop firmware updates to enhance the performance of the A9G.
Just got a call from one of our clients who says he heard on another forum that the A9H was not confirmed as canceled and may ship later this year. Sorry to say this is not correct.

Were those TVs advertised as having HDMI 2.1?

If not, then it's not an issue, manufacturers of all sorts of things feature lock via firmware - why does this make anyone 'scum'?

People paid for an HDMI 2.0 TV, they got one. If Sony felt like building it with 2.1 capable hardware for whatever reason, that's up to them but if they never sold it to anyone as 2.1 capable there is no complaint to be had.

I never get why people complain that they feel 'ripped off' for buying something of a particular spec (that presumably they were happy with because otherwise why buy it at all?) but later finding out that some of the hardware is technically capable of more but was feature locked in firmware.

If these people wanted HMDI 2.1 TVs with HDMI 2.1 dependent features, why did they buy TVs advertised as HDMI 2.0? Seems a bit stupid

I don't think people are complaining about being ripped off but rather treated badly. I just think it's lame when companies like Sony are claiming that they're doing their bit for environment and yet rather than release a simple firmware upgrade, they'd rather force people to scrap their old TV's and upgrade year after year by holding back features artificially. They could charge money for the firmware upgrade if they wanted to but that's unlikely to happen because they'd rather people buy a whole new TV.

@Kenai

No one's complaining they're not giving us HDMI 2.1 when it's advertised as 2.0. I'm calling them scum because they're going out of their way to block people from unlocking these things on their own AND trying to scrub the info from the internet. That's why I call them scum, because they are. Censorship for pennies, how could it not be scummy? Note: no one is saying they can't do these things, just that it's ******. How could artificial restriction of these features when the HW is capable not be ******?

The ripped off comment was in reference to these sorts of comments:
I phoned Sony 4 days ago to inquire about these hdmi 2.1 boards in the tvs. They said they were informed he'd modded the firmware, and they will use new security in all future firmwares to stop this happening. I told them that people know now what's in these tvs. I also said that many owners of them now feel ripped off.
Hey let's ripoff old customers (well not even that old, it's year-old TV)
I can kind of understand the environmental argument but realistically, how many people are going to bin a 2019 TV in favour of a 2020 TV just for HDMI 2.1? I'd guess virtually nobody, firmware or no firmware. Anyone who was that desperate for HDMI 2.1 specifically could have bought a competing product that offered it.

The reddit thread certainly reads to me like a quite a lot of the posters in it are complaining about not being given HDMI 2.1 rather than a moral complaint about Sony trying to keep it quiet that you can download third party firmwares to unlock unofficial features. I just personally don't see the drama with firmware feature locking, it's just the way many industries have gone to save costs in manufacturing, development etc. because it's cheaper to develop one or two good bits of hardware and fiddle with features via software than it is to develop multiple bits of hardware.

I very much doubt we're likely to reach a point of agreement or understanding here anyway, so i'll leave it there.

New info about XH90 from CHAYNA ( :D ): https://post.smzdm.com/p/awx0r4mm/

- 850 nits peak brightness (vs 1300 XH95)
- 32 LD zones (vs 60 XH95)
- Has HDMI 2.1 & a better processor + 1 more GB ram

And because I'm bored, a local dimming zone comparison between Z9F Z9D XF90 (104 vs 48 vs 600; those are 65" numbers else Z9D can do 800 at 75" O_O)

Any recommendations for a cheap 43" 4K? I've got approx. £300 to spend and am currently looking at the Philips 43PUS6754 and Samsung UE43RU7020. I prefer the Philips due to inclusion of DV and the Ambilight feature. Any others I should be looking at?
