Bodyguards for when they have to face real criminals committing proper crimes (heaven forbid). A small chubby man and a woman just don't cut it in dealing with the criminal underworld.

If you'd asked my local station in the late 70's/early 80's they'd have said a snooker table because a certain very young Yadda was always hogging the one they had in the mess. :D

I must have been a real PITA but they were really good with me, fair play. They even gave me the keypad code so I could let myself into the station from the front desk. :D

lol! You ought to read the string of seventies policing tales I put on the fifties forum!

I doubt if it would be practical to wear a stab proof vest over another stab proof vest. Besides, most knives have a blade much longer than the thickness of a stabproof vest so the blade length wouldn't be the main issue. The main issue would be whether or not the vest worked. They're stab resistant rather than actually stab proof. The question is how resistant.

There's a German specialised police unit that goes proper old school when they're called in for cases where the attacker has a bladed weapon. They wear mail. What most people would call chainmail nowadays. Turns out that armour that was widespread and popular on battlefields for many centuries because it was very effective against bladed weapons is very effective against bladed weapons.

I was a Police Officer in the Met and there was many a time I wished I had 2 bladders (or at least one that was twice as large) as you often find yourself out in the cold with no toilet close by.

Another would be sets of handcuffs (you're only issued one).

I hadn't thought about that. What do you do if you need more than one pair? Surely that must happen sometimes. I doubt if politely asking the 2nd person to pretend they're handcuffed would work very well.

Tangential fact time...the literal meaning of "copper" (in this context) is "person who makes arrests".

Well you're always out in pairs so you always have an extra on hand so to speak but waiting for support just because there is a third or fourth person that need to be nicked is a pain. Essentially you call for support and plan ahead when possible but it's annoying when that isn't possible...**** happens.
