My old PC is running Windows 7 & I read online Microsoft will let you upgrade for free if you use their media creation tool, is this true anyone done it recently?

If not where's the best place to buy windows 10?

I believe it still lets you upgrade from 7 to 10 for free, I'd read MS just weren't publicising it anymore. Or at least it worked fine a couple months ago when I upgraded a PC for a relative. Yes, just using the media creation tool.

If you had a retail version of Windows 7. Has Windows 10 upgrade retained retail status?
  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for Command Prompt, right-click the top result, and select the Run as administrator option.
  3. Type the following command to determine the license type and press Enter:
    slmgr /dli

Your w7 code should activate the w10 install from a clean install.

Or you can do an upgrade install from w7 and let it auto-activate...then do a clean install and it will auto activate
