Landline method
This first method is also the easiest one, but you do need a landline number, or some kind of home phone number. First, open up Whatsapp, select your home country and then enter your landline number when asked. Then wait for the standard SMS verification process to fail, which could take up to 5 minutes. After it does, tap on “call me” in the app, and then answer the call made to your landline. You then need to remember the verification code that the automated voice gives you on the phone. Then just enter that code into the app, and you should be all set.

I’ve followed that guide already. When I enter the landline number it moves on to say “The phone number you entered isn’t a valid mobile number for the UK”

Connect to WiFi > Launch Whatsapp > input your landline phone number (it can't be used before) > wait for code (whats app will call) then input the code. If this doesn't work you can get a sim for free online that fits any phone.
