hey all,
I've been looking at many calculations this morning and my brains gone, so could someone tell me how many bags of 25KG cement i would need to make a 6:1 mix with a bulk bag of sharp sand ( 1m3 )
The mix will be in volume not weight.

Thanks...

EDIT : I seem to have worked this out to be about 15 bags, sound about right ?

1m3 of sand is around 1500kgs I believe / 6 = 250kgs of cement
250 / 25 = 10

although you say by volume , it seems cement is similar between 1400-1500 kgs or so per m3

so the above calcs seem to be pretty close still. If you work off 1500 = 1m3 then a bag is 25/1500 = 1/60, so for a 1:6 ratio you would need 60/6 = 10

I would probably go 12 myself just in case either is a little out (base kg / m3 of sand and also cement)

Are you sure your bulk bag is 1m3? A bulk bag is normally about 800-900kg and 1m3 of sand is nearer 1500kg.

From memory a bulk bag of sand is about 0.7m3.

No not sure its just what i read. So maybe not as many as 10 bags per bulk bag of sharp.

I'd be going with 5-6 bags. It's not usually important to get an exact ratio and it'll be difficult unless you're gonna start weighing the bulk bag. 6 bags puts you just over 6:1, 5 bags puts you just under.

10 bags would give more like 3.5:1

What's this even for? If it's just for something like laying slabs it's more important it's well mixed than getting the exact ratio right. I just added half a bag of cement per barrow of sharp sand and mixed well. That's more precise than most builders are!
