  • I drive ~10k miles per year mostly motorway
  • Compact 5 doors, may consider saloons and crossovers if it ticks other boxes
  • Less than 4 years old
  • Petrol, but may consider diesel
  • Must be economical i.e. at least 50mpg combined
  • 0-62 sub 11 secs
  • Decent mid-range power for overtaking
  • Relatively cheap to maintain/service
  • Reliable
  • Comfy seats for long journeys
  • Plenty of boot space
  • Gizmos like parking sensors/folding mirrors a bonus
  • Don't care about looks
  • Not french
  • Not a tin can
Kinda of asking for holy grail here I know, but I'm thinking along the lines of Focus, Mazda3, Astra, Qashqai, Honda Civic.

Always promised myself that I wouldn't drive anything under 1.5L after driving numerous hire tin cans between 2013-2017, but that might have changed from what I have read??

Have been particularly impressed in the past by Mazda6 2.2d, and Audi A1 TFSI engines.

If the boot is big enough perhaps a Seat Leon? Should tick all the other boxes, you can get a 150HP 2018 model in a high trim level for that budget, or maybe 2017 if you want a bit choice / lower mileage / local options etc.
If the boot isn't big enough then consider a Skoda Octavia (if compact enough), failing that Honda Civic.
