I play WoW classic pretty avidly and I lift weights 4-6 times a week, a lot of people who I play WoW with lift weights/exercise, are in relationships, have their wifes/girlfriends play with them. You sound like the average person from the Counter-Strike community, utterly toxic, which I used to be part of back in the 1.6 days.

Ha if you think any game is immune to the toxicity of online gamers.

My mate who plays dota got me to try it and I saw far more toxicity in that one and only game I've ever played of it compared to the levels received in Cs in the past week.

It happens in all competitive games.

In fact you have streamers whose whole job is to be toxic to their own team mates whilst playing.

Well yeah exactly, WoW's community is pretty chill compared to any sort of FPS/MOBA community. I think the stereotype about people who play MMO's is dated now, it's not some reclusive sub section of game where people grind for 12 hours a day.

If you like how old games made you feel then play old games.

I still play UT2004, it's still good, just wish it had more players. I mean what's the alternative? Fortnite? I'd rather give up gaming completely than play that trash.

Posted on reddit but thought I'd open up here.

Now before I get bombarded with old person comments and down votes I just wanna open up here, partly due to boredem, party to vent and now allow it to ruin my already cagey mental health.

I'm 33, live in England, been lucky enough to have been exposed to gaming from a young age. My earliest memory gaming is playing Sonic 1 in my uncles bedroom. Around 3years old. I literally don't remember anything before that, that is my earliest memory and I suppose using sonic as a reference is why it's stuck.

Gaming throughout the 2000s I eventually got into mmorpg which changed gaming for me, maybe due to the lack of massive online community on xbox/ps around 2006. And although I always buy every console I maybe have 5 friends I always play with, and another 20 I haven't played with since maybe 2015. I used to always be part of a team, or when I played more console games, we aren't a clan, just a group of friends who grew up together gaming. (I realise how poorly written this is up until this point but I'm trying to channel my thoughts for once)

Now due to my age and group I'm in, everyone is moving their focus onto families, some already have kids, some expecting more and the time we have together fades as their family grows, which is great for them but gaming is my getaway, I don't watch TV unless it's football (soccer) and the rare film. And I'm finding lately I'm just finding my time online a bit sad and lonely. I got heckled loads for having my yera of birth in my tag, got bombarded so much I paid to change it lol, and it's like I'm 33, have my own house, nice car, good job, travel and I'm allowing these people to bring me down further. I just miss a sense of belonging or being part of a team now days, I have a pc sat upstairs, decent spec but no one to really game with, my ps4 Pro is mainly for exclusives because it is better for that let's be honest, and my xbox is really there to play with the same group I've played with since the 360 days.

I've got this far trying to explain something I can express. I dunno. Maybe I am getting old, maybe I just need to find a group who wants members etc. I just hope in a way there's people in the same moment, and that we can all pass it.

Peace out

Me and my gaming buddies are early/mid 30's there is only me who had a child the others have no interest. I specifically make time a couple of times a week to get online and sometimes we just sit and chat about things its very good for socialising. If you want to pop onto our discord channel then get in touch :) The other guys are into retro gaming so you will get on well with them, i grew up with the mega drive/nes/snes but i have no real interest to revisit that era. I do however agree i just dont quite get that dopamine hit i used to get from 1997 to around 2005, i really hope cyberpunk changes that.

Currently we play a bit of of COD,insurgency, overwatch, the division. Im massively into Rust but the others just cannot get into it, so i usually solo on that.

If you want a decent group of guys, honestly get in touch! :)

Have you tried FiveM (GTAV RP servers?) There are a few good groups there where you can get to know new people and interact with them on the streets of Vinewood lol. It can be pretty hilarious at times too. I play on a couple of servers ( LucidRP and CliqueRP), both provide great RP experience but some people can be a bit rude. Lucid is a whitelisted server so you get less idiots on there. The ultimate server though is NoPixel, only the elite get to play there, but the roleplay is amazing, have a look at some videos on YouTube to see what it's like.

how do you join RP servers?

I'm in a similar boat, however the problem isn't just limited to games for me - films and TV shows also bore me as well.

im exactly the same! i cant binge a TV show ill have the attention span for 1 maybe 2 episodes. luckily i live with a Mrs who likes watching utter crap so we have a mutual understanding that a couple of nights a week i can game.

Maybe you mght wanna move on life? Surely gaming cant be your OWNLY vice? In 20 years time would you be happy if you were still in the same place you are now? Look into personal develoment if you dont wanna find that special someone

Me and the missus travel a lot as we both dont want kids for example so have quite a bit of spare time, however we've always liked just chilling doing our own thing when its needed, it works very well and in that part of my life I'm very very happy.

Hvaing a few offers on here have been nice and once I'm less anxious i'll be joining a few groups, once I dust off the PC.

Ah I thought you were single, in that case yeah man get invovled with the online community! The golden age of clans is kinda gone, I used to be in a really active BF2 and COD:MW2 clan years ago but like you said people get families and stuff and it dies away

I'm 36 now and also miss how gaming made me feel but not really in the same was as op.

I do mostly play online games but it's how those single player and couch multiplayer games made me feel in the 90's/early 2000's that I miss.

I could pick up any rubbish ps1/dreamcast/n64 game and enjoy playing it literally all day. I loved it. Now it's rare that I can play a game for more than an hour before starting to get bored, no matter what it is. I still absolutely love the idea of gaming, every day I'm look forward to finishing work, getting the kids to bed and jumping on something but then I'm just all, meh and struggle through whatever I'm playing to chat with my mates.

A few notable exceptions, I enjoyed Spider-man but not enough to want to play many side missions. Bio-shock infinite, although I was bored at points the story kept me going. FFVII remake - Played it through twice (once on hard mode) and platinumed it. Honestly loved it from beginning to end but a lot of that is probably fond memories of the original.

I game mostly on PC because that's what my friends play on. Maybe I should just concentrate more on single player games.

I'm 41 and miss the good old gaming days. When I started the internet didn't exist so you needed to be at a friends house to enjoy multiplayer - good times :)
Then the internet happened which opened up larger clan based FPS games with staying up all night playing without realising the time that had passed.

Life moves on, I grew up got into other hobbies - MTB'ing, road cycling, photography and then it all changed again when our son arrived.

Now I enjoy watching him play - Fortnite, Minecraft and others. I occasionally jump on with them but I'm just target practice :(:p

The thing is though you'd expect that a new generation would be coming along to replace the old timers with families etc; it may feel like the golden age has gone but is some of that just down to the fact that the people you kicked around with back in the day have drifted away, that the games you used to like have fallen out of favour, etc? If you picked up a modern game and looked to team up with some new faces could you get back into the clan scene? Does that even interest you, is it more nostalgia for a simpler time and missing the online relationships you had at that time?
Or is there genuinely some sort of shift in gaming habits more towards public matchmaking and stuff.

Me personally, I gave up on playing new online games a long time ago. I've been playing the same FPS for over 20 years and whilst the scene has shrunk it is still a lot of fun, generally most people still left are pretty sound with the occasional bit of new blood somehow finding it's way to our community. Pandemic has helped a bit as it's meant people generally at home a lot more. I'm sure one day it will dwindle to a level where we can't even get regular team games going and I think I'll just step away from competitive gaming at that point.

We've found that Hell Let Loose has reignited some of those early epic BF1942 / Red Orchestra memories. I think it's the sense of scale that does it (50 v 50 on huge maps). Some of the {SAS} boys are saying it's the best thing they've played in a decade and are asking about reviving the Beer Drinkers Server
