Everyone sucks here to be honest. The nurse is right that the daughter doesn't need this sort of thing happening at the worst time of her life.
The father, whilst my heart goes out to him, and especially because he's in the medical profession also, is the main problem(obviously) - simple as that. Sure, it's probably the hardest day of his, as well as other family members, any sympathy goes out the window when he doesn't do what is asked; and they asked for over FIVE minutes before getting physical.
There is obviously a history of some sort with regards to the family and the hospital, the police have been called out multiple times to deal with it. Nurses, especially in a pediatric intensive care unit, do not want to deal with people like this given the situation for her(the daughter) AND other patients that are in the unit also - what about them??
Both of the parents didn't want the nurses to pull the tube, which is fair enough given the situation, but the decision has been made after 2 years - so the daughter has had enough time to show, if any, improvement and she didn't. It's sad, and some people/nurses/police/professionals get hardened to sadness of it all, they have to to some extent else they wouldn't be able to do the job for long. They didn't want the father there as he was likely to kick off when they did finally come to remove the tube. That is obvious given his emotional(understandable) and belligerent(less so) state.
The police were called, rightly or wrongly, and they had to do their job. Again, the situation stinks but if the family(mainly the father) wasn't so aggressive then things wouldn't have escalated as far as they did. All very sad..
