As for how much they cost, sadly if I told you they wouldn't sell me any. But if you were thinking of a number between £140 and £150 incl. VAT you wouldn't be miles out.
Thanks man. I hear that the 8mp versions come out this month. I likely won’t be doing anything for a couple of months yet at least so happy to wait and see how much those cost. I will keep whatever I buy for a long time so might as well go 4K :)

Where are you hearing about 8MP TiOC cameras?

Hikvision already has 8MP Darkfighter's on the market (Amazon for £160-ish) but my understanding was that they lack their own light source and they need good street lighting to work properly. If you're in London that might well be suitable.

I'm not aware of any plans by Dahua to release an upgrade to TiOC anytime soon as the 2MP is the budget one and the 5MP is the better one.

From a youtube video. Go to around 12 minutes:

OK, I'll give Simon a ring and ask him!

And the information on that slide doesn't match the quoted specs for illumination. As it's 30m for the mini-domes and 40m for the bullets on the specs but that says 20/30/40m depending on the camera focal length.

On one hand it will be good to have a 4K option, on the other it's a pain in the neck keeping up with all these things while simultaneously trying to screw something to a wall while up a ladder!

There is a point though where going up in fps just fills up your hdd pointlessly. Anything over 15fps is definitely in the diminishing returns area.

Because of the whole pandemic thing I’ve been forced to offer people cheaper solutions for home use and you’d be surprised how effective motion sensing AI is with just an SD card in the camera recording only triggered events. It also makes reviewing the images a lot easier.

Yeah I see your point. For the additional £20-£25 to double the size, I felt I had be as well as like I say, I can add additional cameras.

Problem I have with full colour cams with built in light source is the flies and crap that torture the light at night during this summer weather. Plays havoc with motion alerts.

I know I will using other external lighting instead.

Actually, they’ve tuned the LED to stop this happening. The insects are attracted to certain visible wavelengths and they’ve tuned those out. They’re very much attuned to the issue of IR attracting spiders so they build webs over the cameras and I have to say I’ve yet to see a camera being attacked by insects at night with the ‘warm white’ lights on. The other thing is that the baked-in Smart Motion Detection only picks up humans, cars or bicycles. In almost 3 months testing the early beta unit I had I had absolutely no false alarms with the new SMD enabled. They have done a great job with these cameras and yes, I would say that because I sell them. And the reason I sell them is they’re really easy to sell. Hikvision have a great product too and they’re also very easy to sell. On the whole, right now, Dahua just have the edge in security cameras but if Hikvisionnor anyone else brings anything out I’ll test and sell that too if it’s better.

I'm after a camera for keeping an eye on the car and drive.

Poe
Good resolution 5Mp+, 4k would be nice.
Be able to record to my Asustor NAS.
Good nightt picture.

Its going to be mounted up high on a wall looking down at the car and drive so maybe 15 meters distance.

I know hikvision are good but I am completely baffled by the amount of options.

I had originally looked at the Reolink 511 but it looks to have issues.

Good nightt picture.

Resolution is fairly unimportant if the field of view is correct. The only benefit you get is somewhat nebulous digital zoom which you shouldn’t need if the field of view is set correctly. The downside with 4K is that it generally limits cameras to 10-15fps which is fine in some instances and crap in others.

Your ASUSstor NAS can handle any ONVIF camera so that’s pretty easy. Anything from a major manufacturer will be ONVIF.

And a good night picture needs further clarification. Do you want black & white pictures (Infra Red) of do you need colour? If you need colour then you have Hikvision ColorVu (4MP) and Dahua TiOC (available in 2 MP and 5MP with 8MP actually available in October-ish).

So you probably want one of those two options.

That’s a REALLY long way away. So far away I would probably suggest a zoom camera so you can frame the image nicely. But that rules out night-time colour.

In a fixed lens, Hikvision do 4mm and 6mm versions of this;

https://www.hikvision.com/mtsc/uplo...2CD2347G1-L(U)_Datasheet_V5.5.82_20190429.pdf

and the equivalent Dahua would be this one;

https://www.oprema.co.uk/getattachm...a0-ec3f4fb8a9fc/IPC-HFW3549T1-AS-PV-0360.aspx

If you look at the picture I posted above from the 3.6mm Dahua TiOC bullet you can see how far away 15m looks with even a 3.6mm lens.

A good 4K IR zoom camera would be something like;

That’s a very good zoom on a reasonable sensor. All the cameras I’ve listed are roughly the same price (£150-ish incl. VAT).

Also bear in mind that a high up mounting location means you won’t see faces very well.

Zoom definitely seems ideal so like you say I can frame it best.

Any good places to buy the one you suggested.

Fully glazed domes or the eyeball type (mini-domes)? Eyeballs can be mounted anywhere and are very flexible and quite discreet. Likewise bullets are pretty flexible but they’re quite ‘security camera pointing this way’. Some people want that and will only spec bullets. They’re also bigger so they usually have better IR and sometimes they can have better image quality.

Fully glazed domes make it much harder to see where the lens is pointing but if you’re wall-mounting it you will need a horizontal wall mount or a rain shade to keep the glass free from water droplets when it rains.

Horizontal mount option;

https://www.securitydynamics.co.uk/media/assets/datasheets/PFB203W Datasheet.pdf

Rain shade option;

https://www.securitydynamics.co.uk/media/assets/datasheets/PFA200W Datasheet.pdf

Also be aware that all these cameras have fairly hefty trailing lead bundles that have to be hidden away somewhere. The horizontal mount is very good for that or if you’re using the rain shade then you’ll need a deep box to put the cables in;

https://www.securitydynamics.co.uk/media/assets/datasheets/PFA137 Datasheet.pdf

I would normally just go with the bullet.
