1st I drove was my Dads knackered old Morris Minor. Taught myself to drive in a space of about 10 feet. Backwards and forwards only

1st car I bought myself, 1992 Renault 19 16V. Thought it was amazing, until bits started falling off

First driven: an utterly clapped out Austin Maxi around the fields at the top of our road when I was 14-15.

First driven on the road: My late father’s Renault 20 TS. A collection of poor design choices, failing electrical systems and an automatic gearbox made from Brie.

First owned: A skip of an X plate 2.8 Granada. Carburettor version that did 12 MPG until I fitted a manual choke. Having an accident in it was like a war in the Middle East; you were aware that it was happening, but weren’t overly concerned.

First car I owned was a 1992 Corsa. The understeer was comical in the wet but it was ok :D

It was a better car than the later Corsas though. Which were and still are horrid things to drive.

First car I drove was my driving instructor’s Clio. 1996 diesel with no power steering. Practising three point turns in that thing was like a trip to the gym!

First car I owned was a Fiat Cinquecento sporting in yellow which I bought off my mum in about 2001. Outrageously unreliable death trap, but fun even with a mighty 54bhp!

First car I drove was an 1970 Mercedes Benz SEL which a friend lent me to give me girlfriend a lift home. I had never driven before and was terrified. Lucky it was an automatic and I only nearly crashed twice. The first one I drove legally was my Dad's Skoda Rapide, he taught me to drive just before he became too ill from cancer. A horrible "car", you used to take the skin off your knuckles when you opened the windows from the side pockets scraping across them. The first one I owned was a Datsun 120y. The last car I owned was a Ford Mondeo. Great car but I have not needed one since living in the centre of a city.

First experience was my dad's 1.3 Ford Escort (can't remember much about it). Went to his work each Sunday as it was closed and it was a massive site with lots of roads to practice on.

It was also my first car of you don't count the Rover Metro which failed its MOT so epically it had to be scrapped a week after I passed.

Learned in a Nissan Micra. Hated it.

First car I drove was my mums Volvo 340 at around 15. We used to take it fishing and after unloading I'd drive it back down the farm track to a clearing where we could park it.

First one I owned was my Hyundai Pony which was my grandads but he transferred the ownership over to me when he was too ill to drive it anymore. Had that car for 5 1/2 years before it rusted away!

Interesting, didn't know they existed!

Shame they weren't UK market really, would probably be a cheap and cool car to buy these days.
Yeah, basically a Bora/Golf IV 4 motion with a Leon body. Either 2.8 V6 with 204bhp or the 1.9 PD 150 like I had.
It preceded the FR TDI and had Recaros rather than just the sports seats. I got it because I was moving to Norway for a year and I'm glad I did because the 4wd saved my bacon on a few occasions!
