A 3080 at £799 with double the 1080TIs performance could be a good seller but I'm certainly not buying until AMD have shown their hand. Obviously this risks Jensen deciding to up the price further on a whim if RDNA2 doesn't live up to the hype.
Yup, waiting to see what AMD bring before buying anything is certainly the wise choice.

I once had a space heater for a PC, with an FX-8350 overclocked and Crossfire 7950... The insane amount of heat was rather unpleasant and I personally don't care for that again. Also, I rather like my power bill not costing me a fortune as electricity is rather expensive in Denmark(around 0.3 pounds per kW/h if I recall correctly).

People paying these prices are just validating nvidia's price gouging.

Some people truly have more money than sense :(

maybe but don't forget some people, like myself, used to buy high ends each generation, i skipped the 2080ti and if i splash out the kind of money they want for the 3090 i can see me skipping 2 generations.

Everyone: turing prices are baaaaad! turing should have failed!
nVIDIA: what can we do, what can we do.... Ha, I know! Leak info that Ampere will be much more expensive!
Everyone: whaaat? That's outrageous!
nVIDIA (launch time): reveals the same prices as turing, enforcing the old, inflated prices.
Everyone: Yes, that's much better, solid day one purchase!
nVIDIA: win

PS: if those prices are true, can still be somewhat ok if rtx3060 is around 30% (+) over 2080ti. :D

Nope

3070 should match the 2080ti or slightly beat it, 3060 got no chance

NVIDIA RTX 3000 Series Rumored Pricing: RTX 3090 for $1399, RTX 3080 for $799, RTX 3070 for $599 and RTX 3060 for $399 https://wccftech.com/nvidia-rtx-300...or-799-rtx-3070-for-599-and-rtx-3060-for-399/

$1400 dollars is £1070 today, am I right in saying that I'm pricing will just be like for like and be £1400 for the 3090?

RTX 3090 for $1399
RTX 3080 for $799
RTX 3070 for $599
RTX 3060 for $399

If this is all anything approaching accurate then the 3080 PG132-20 with 20GB VRAM seems like by far the best price/performance option to me.

The 3090 will probably be nowhere near 1.75-2x the performance for $1399.

I've never owned the top card and was hoping to get one this time around but I'm maxing at around a grand (I'd probably stump the extra £70 at £1070)

But £1400 is a knuckle biter.... If the 3080 is £800 I could get that which would be a massive jump in performance over my 1070 and one of the new consoles for similar money.

I must be the only one who pays less for top end GPUs these days.

In the old days you could have 4 way SLI or Crossfire.

Now it is a job to get more than one GPU working.

this, i said this earlier on, my cheapest gpu purchase over the last 10 years has been my 1080ti, sli being dead there was no point buying two. Before that all my builds were x2 or x4 builds which were F expensive..

AMD have a real chance to make a killing if the performance is there and the price hits the mark.

Imagine something like this:

6500 = 299 (~2060)
6600 = 399
6700 = 549
6800 = 749
6900 = 999 (~3090)

It depends on AMD to save us.
If they have a card that comfortably beats that "RTX 3080" for $100 less, then nVidia will have to rethink its product positioning.
RTX 3080 for $800 only if its GPU is around 600 mm^2.

There will very likely be no 3900 performance-class card from AMD, their top card will compete with the 3800 as it is still based on the 5700XT tech. Nvidia will retain the performance crown, which is to be expected until at least the next generation.

I would expect Nvidia to win at the very top, as they should considering how very, very hard they are trying by the looks of that absolute monstrosity.

This isn't true. AMD's forthcoming RDNA 2 architecture should be a new architecture, while RDNA 1 which powers the RX 5700 XT is a hybrid between the old GCN and the new RDNA 2.
Take it that RDNA 2 will be the new truly redesigned from the ground up architecture.

If those prices are true, I'll employ common sense in waiting for AMD and tertiary producers for both. If they both fail somehow, PS5. I'm at 1440p 1XXHz for 2+ years still, more like 5+ years if PS5 + new TV.
