Current launch is to beat AMD to market, once AMD launch we'l see the Ti variants with price alteration to the non Ti's
I think you are 1000% right. This is the "quick, gouge em" launch. Then when AMD compete (hopefully) we will se a price drop and new Ti cards launched. Certainly worth waiting for by the looks of it.

2080ti was launched same time as 2080, within a week. And announced at launch. I bought the 2080ti with confidence it wasn't going to be superseded. I hope I can do the same this gen.

My 2080Ti arrived September 29th 2018 and cost me £1090.

That means it has cost me about £47 per month - which is what some people pay for a mobile phone contract for 2 years.

I've tried to do a quick calculation of game-time on Steam/Gamepass/Epic Store etc since 1st October 2018. I don't multi-task when playing games so this will be pretty accurate.

Steam
Hitman 2 - 163 hours
XCOM Chimera Squad - 73 Hours
Horizon: Zero Dawn - 65 Hours
Sekiro: Shadows die Twice - 49 hours
Resident Evil 2 - 33 hours
Shadow of the Tomb Raider - 31 hours
Resident Evil 3 - 26 hours
Metro Last Light Redux - 14.2 hours
Metro 2033 Redux - 12.5 hours
Half Life: Alyx - 10 hours

MS Gamepass
Gears Tactics - 40 hours
The Outer Worlds - 29 hours
Ori and the Will of the Wisps -15 hours
Wolfenstein Youngblood
Gears 5 - 14 hours
Crackdown 3 - 17 hours
Forza Horizon 4 - 80 hours
Streets of Rage 4 - 4 hours

Epic
Borderlands 3 - 34 hours
Control - 22 hours
Rebel Galaxy Outlaw - 21 hours
Observation - 6.5 hours

Origin
Battlefield V - 20 hours
Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order - 23 hours

Bethesda (guestimates)
Rage 2 - 15 hours
Doom Eternal - 15 hours

Other
Red Dead Redemption 2 - 52 hours

894.2 hours - Lets call it 900 with some VR gaming on Boneworks, Arizona Sunshine etc.

So for the GPU, that's £1.21 per hour of gaming. I'm ok with that.

It's no surprise that many companies try to get you to think about big expenses in terms of monthly payments. Even charities are now trying to sell your payments as "only 2p per day for this, that and the other good cause".

"Only £50 a month" doesn't sound like much, until you realise you're spending that much every month on 35 different payments, and it all adds up to most of your pay packet :p

"The car only costs me £300 a month. The phone, the TV, the washing machine, the gym membership, the holiday(s), the new kitchen, the new wardrobe... all about £50 each per month.."

They all cost "only" <£100 per month each :p And then you're broke :p

I'm actually really excited for this launch, for once in a long time there's actually going to be competition from AMD that might change the course of it's current trend! Literally anything could happen!

My breakdown will looks worse than that because I also own several consoles and split my time between the pc and the consoles. But overall I'm sure my Nintendo switch console is the worst purchase, I've only played 6 games on in 2 years for a total of 100 hours

That's just the GPU price though. I bought my 980Ti in Nov' 2015 and it has done pretty well considering the demands I've placed on it. I paid £449 for it, so spending at least double that is going to hurt. I'm just praying that if I do go down the 3090 route then my 8700k build isn't going to slow it down. I might invest in another 16GB RAM though, and then this build will have to last until the year 3090 :D
