Hi all,

I'm looking at used cars, and have seen a Saab 9-3 that's taken my interest. What are they like for parts? Are they easy to get hold of? The car in question is a 2009 model, so over 10 years old now.

Thanks,

Edward

Parts are easy to get hold of. Even body parts although a lot will be second hand. I just bought two new headlight level sensors for my 9-5 which are Saab specific no problem.

Neo Brothers and Parts for Saabs are your first contacts. Skandix.de is also very good and delivery is quick from the EU.

The GM parts are cheap but despite what people like to say the actual GM components are not as many as people think. Most are Saab specific.

You'll probably find many of the parts are generic GM/Vauxhall. Or even that they will just work anyway. Then you'll find the odd one which is impossible to find and costs loads :/

eBay has everything. Some people seem to be against eBay but I don't see the problem.
If it’s anything like the cars I specialise in, the parts being available on eBay isn’t an issue - but the quality is atrocious.

Typically Chinese tat sellers trying to undercut each other by pennies while constantly finding cheaper and cheaper places to have the parts made... I think the record so far for a customer was a lower arm that failed in 3 weeks. Impressive! :D

Many of the Saab specific parts are made by Orio who effectively took over the manufacturing of the original parts and these are available through a range of companies in the UK (you cannot buy direct from them as an individual).

There's still a good network of independent Saab specialists as well, many of whom have a large amount of decent 2nd hand spares available and excellent knowledge of the cars.
