Really excited my we Aorus FI27Q is on its way first new bit of computer hardware in about 7 years.

So any settings I should be changing to get the best out of it.
I will be using it via HDMI for now until upgrade the rest of my PC. So I think I'm limited to 60hz at 1440p for now.

Dont know if this is correct but the monitor only allows me to go up to 60hz in windows settings, and reports the monitor as an SDR display, bit depth 8-bit. Is this because im using onboard graphics and HDMI at the minute?

looking to return the MSI MAG272CQR and looking at the FI27Q-P maybe wait for the price to drop also have an LG 27UK850-W which is 4K 60hz IPS screen but wanting something for gaming so looking for 1440p 165hz which has both freesync and gsync

The things I didnt like about the MAG272CQR in dual screen setup it wouldnt go into standby/sleep contacted MSI and was told it would need to go back to MSI for firmware to be updated to solve this issue, I like the fact you can update the firmware on the Gigabyte through the software yourself, another thing i didnt like about the MAG272CQR dont know if this is common with VA panels or if it was just my monitor the bottom of the screen it was less white more like slight yellow tinge also made the colours looked slightly washed out near the bottom couldnt really tell in games or video playback but in windows and web browsing could see it , so think maybe IPS is best for me thats why the Gigabyte has caught my eye

whats the difference between the FI27Q and FI27Q-P is it just can have 165hz HDR 10bit on P ?

isnt HDR even worth using anyway as its not proper HDR and will you even see difference between 10 bit and 8 bit ?

FI27Q can do 165hz 8 bit via display port and 144hz on HDMI ? just without 10 bit ? guess depends how much difference in price at the moment cant even find the FI27Q-P and its well over priced as is FI27Q

Thanks

one of the reviews i looked at

The Q will accept an 8-bit signal at 165 Hz with HDR , but the FI27Q-P will accept a 10-bit signal. Given the panel's edge backlight and lack of dynamic contrast for HDR, we don't see any advantage to the more expensive model, Color banding should not be an issue either, because the FI27Q upsamples to 10-bits using Frame Rate Conversion.

only main advantage i can see is the black shadow option

How're you finding the monitor? Thinking of getting the P version. Any issues with stuck or dead pixels?
Perfect, no dead or stuck pixels that I can find.

I didn't go for the P because a fair few reviews said it wasn't worth it, and to basically not even consider the monitor HDR.

I'd hold out for the G27Q if you're going down the Gigabyte route
https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/comparison/13a014aea2
It seems that the FI27Q-P is 30 bit vs the newer models and it has DP 1.4 vs DP 1.2 on the newer models. Also has HDCP 2.2 which the others omit. I'm not sure about USB upstream or downstream but not a factor since they all support it (type A on the FI27Q-P whereas the others have type b (a printer cable IIRC)). Its a world first with HBR 3 which none of the others support (they don't have the colour depth or connectivity). My RX vega 56 supports DP 1.4:

Also my 3900x is not as capable of CPU bound (raw frequency) 1080p gaming. I wasn't planning on going 1440p but none of the 1080p monitors have 1.03 billion colour (30-bit), only 16.7million (24-bit). I think only movies shot in 10-bit colour will be displaying this colour depth, jpegs are up to 16.7million but typically only 100,000-150,000 colours are used (according to Irfanview).

I have a bit of research to do, unfortunate about the HDR but I think the colour reproduction & HBR 3 world first will suit me more:

The first link you've put in there.

you can put all these HBR3 marketing shenanigans aside.

It’s not something you should base your monitor purchase on.

Plus it's not true 10 bit. It's 8 + FRC

I bought it, it was cheaper here than the rainforest by over £100. I was watching the youtube video I linked, seems quite well balanced with frame rate/overshoot.

I have this monitor next to my Samsung G7, it's lovely, best setting is Custom 1. If you want to display sRGB the mode locks it to 180 nits so might be bright for some dark room users. Bot the FI27Q + P model will overly saturate your content but it's tastefully done. Decent contrast for a gaming IPS screen. The P model isn't worth it, 10 bit colour isn't that important for most games but even if you want it, 120hz isn't bad. No one should get any screen without Local dimming anyway for HDR so it's not really meant for that. Overall good build, looks and picture quality.

I have been using my fi27q-p 27" and its all good. I use sRGB mode until I play a game, switching to FPS mode. Viewing the wallpaper on my desktop in FPS mode shows how much the colour depth is reduced at least for black. Its currently 3% or £20 cheaper than I bought it (£579) which at the time seemed to be reduced, but as above cheaper than the rainforest.
