Upgrade from RX5700XT to RTX30XX

I've got the chance to move my 5700XT on for what I paid for it so was thinking of take advantage and upgrading to a 30XX.

I play at 1440p on a 144Hz and have no issue with the 5700 at all. So as this is just a 'pay the difference' situation what would be the recommended upgrade 3070, 3080 etc and which model?

I understand they're all pre-order but would appreciate opinions. I'd like a quiet card that's OK With a 650W Gold PSU.

I've got a 3700X on a x570 board with 32GB RAM.

Sell, Sell, Sell, but you won't get a 3070 until October, and that could be the 1st or the 31st or anytime in-between. Will you still be able to get the same for it in October?

If you can wait for the 3070 as it will be a while. If you need it sooner then its the 3080.

I would wait to see what AMD has to offer first before making any decisions, if you can wait that long.

3080 for me is not an option. Whatever its performance, 320W TDP is way too high. Not from PSU standpoint (650W should be plenty), but heat dumped inside and silence. Don't care how elaborate and fancy cooling systems are, its 320W!
3070 could be interesting, but not enough of a jump from my 2070Super

If in OP situation I would be tempted to sell 5700XT and hold over until october on my trusty old HD6950 2GB. Soon to be 10 year old, has served me through many gpu emergencies.

I'm holding onto my 5700XT mate, simply because we don't actually know what performance and price and more importanlty availability will be like. What will you do remove the 5700XT like this week and sell? You got a spare card?

For me, just sit back and wait personally but everyones different so... depends hwo much you need funds etc. However on the flip side you say you game at 1440p and it runs perfect, so why change? Just becauise a new card comes out, doesn't mean you have to change if that card runs everything perfecctly>? The only reason I wanna change mine out is because I want 120fps at 4k maxed out... which the 5700XT can't do... and if no card can do that then I won't buy them.

Good replies and food for thought. It's only because I can get retail price for my 5700XT that I'm thinking of upgrading. I have a spare card that's OK but honestly the 5700 is great so maybe I should stick with it.

I'm not going 4K anytime soon having just bought the 1440 monitor.

Very good point about the TDP. My backup is a 7950 3GB

Might want to wait and see what AMD offers first.

If you need to sell the 5700XT early you can get very basic GPU's off Ebay for less than $20 which will allow basic office functionality.

I'm at 1440p 144hz as well with a 5700xt. My upgrade path is going to be Zen3 from 1st gen Ryzen. I'm going to wait until next summer for a new GPU, but even then it'll be driven by the games I want to play as I don't see myself going 4k for a while yet.

Gives the new cards time to mature as well

The way that Nvidia is launching their cards at such reasonable price (which is very unlike them) I suspect they know something about the new AMD cards that we don't (yet).

I got a feeling that this gen might end up like how the R9 290/290x 4GB vs GTX780 3GB was; AMD may actually be able to deliver comparable performance to up to 3080 level, but with the difference of having more vram; only 8GB on the 3070 and 10GB on the 3080 not too sure how I feel about that.

I have my eyes on the 3080, but cannot help but feel if gaming at 4K the 10GB vram could be a bit on the low side. Would be interested to see if AMD can bring out something with comparable performance, but with 12GB vram since historically AMD cards tends to always have more vram than Nvidia at the same tier of every level.

Make good.mining cards. Think a currency is kicking up a new trend . 5700xt makes a lot of cash per month .
