Just watched a optimum tech video where he fitted a mono block to his board for his cpu temps to be much higher.

I’ve recently purchased a mono block for my build instead of a cpu block.

other than the VRM temps going in to the loop, are these mono block worse eg getting a decent seating on the cpu?

I'd say it may be harder to guarantee even pressure all over. And certainly harder to test the fit. Also higher risk of small component changes on the board causing issues.

I would do at least one test mount, then unmount and check thermal paste spread. I have cheap silicone thermal paste for this reason, testing component fit before final assembly.
