No. I got a 3950x, I intend to keep it for many years. I'm not chasing single threaded performance or bleeding edge gaming performance.

I came from two old Broadwell Xeons and a 1920x, so the uplift was enormous any way.

Like a few in here, I'll be looking to upgrade my 3600 when the 4000 chips start dropping in price. I would probably just go for a 12 core item though as that woul dbe more than enough to last me 5 years+

My 3900X on X370 obviously not.
But that's ok, it's doing it's job perfectly fine.

My 3900 on X570 I probably will... but not till later on next year (I may even wait till Zen 3+ if that happens).

The main objective this year is a Ampere or RDNA2 upgrade.

I only bought my 3900x last week, given I’ve only just moved from a 4790k I think it’s fair to say I’ll be holding onto this chip for a while.

Only thing that could change my mind will be if there are significant performance benefits when paired with the new gfx cards from Nvidia and being able to get a reasonable price for a 3900x on the MM

Tuned 3900X is pretty solid tbh. Going from 3800C16 to 3800C14 the performance jumped almost 5% higher (from 3600C16 to 3800C14 is like a new CPU).

Have a look here what I am saying.

Which RAM are you using? Mine is only 16gb 3600CL18, I've been thing about going up to 32Gb with better timings.

The only thing I might consider is to swap my 3700X for a 4600. A couple of games use the extra cores but most of the time they sit idle, and I could upgrade my server from a 1700 to a 3700X if I swap it out. I kinda doubt it though since my server isn't even close to sweating. If anything it needs more RAM, not single core performance.

No I only recently bought a 3900X as a replacement for an old but honourable 4790k. CPU's are rarely worth upgrading unless you have a particular need for it or its a significant jump in performance. Which the 49xx is unlikely to be.

I am building my first PC and have most parts already including a 3950x. Waiting on 3090.

I saw AMD's announcement today about 8th October and now I'm not sure what to do! I am still within the returns window for the 3950x. I don't know whether to return it and wait or just keep it. I'm fed up waiting for new GPU and CPU to be available but at the same time, I plan to use this system for a good few years so it probably makes sense to get the newest tech.
