Technically, that is just how capitalism/the free market works. It's supply and demand. Why are they any worse than what other retailers have done (with scalping the rrp up etc)?

It doesn't have to be like that though because if people were just patient and were not willing to pay a few hundred over the rrp to an ebayer, simply so they dont have to wait a few more weeks, this sort of **** wouldn't happen.

If everyone just chilled out and was able to be a bit patient, none of this would have happened. It's a GPU (and most who are buying one of these likely already have a powerful gpu anyway), not your last meal or drop of water.

Imagine you go into a store specifically to get a pack of Haribo, and some guy dashed pass you to the shelf and grab all 5 remaining packs of them and bought them, and then he has the nerve to offer to sell it to you at 4 times the price.

Is he breaking the law? Nope. Is he an a-hole that create a problem for you in the first place and then offer to sell you "a solution" that's outright rip-off? Yes.

Just because people can do something "legally", it does not mean it is not scummy. People have the right to express their dismay and angry toward these individuals.

Its only the murder laws that stop these people getting properly smashed in. If we were still cavemen and this happened, the offender would find himself being tomorrow night's supper, and rightly so.

the problem is the retailers will do jack ****.....they will inflate the prices to increase their margins as long as the scalpers buy the cards..they dont care as long as they sell the cards.

Your problem should be with nvidia hyping up a paper launch and with yourself for not being patient. How can you blame scalpers when there are fools that will pay over the odds.

Pretty much this.

If people want to pay over the odds then that's upto them. It's no real difference to people paying over the odds for a football season ticket which then contributes to the rapid growth in the value of the players and the wages that they demand. If no-one paid for the season tickets and no-one purchased the clubs kit, and no-one paid for premium sports channels to watch it, then they wouldn't be able to afford to pay the players stupidly high wages.

Basically this is how a free market works.

Well you just walk over to the next shop which has them and he can do whatever he wants with his newly acquired Haribo.

The problem has been caused by Nvidia doing a paper launch, yes I agree in principle it's crappy behaviour but let's remove all those scalpers for a second, is there now enough supply or are we still not remotely close?

Exactly.

The only people to blame for this sort of thing are the people with no self control or patience. People buying things for a certain amount and selling them to make a profit if the demand is there is how the economy works.

Unless you agree with introducing a profit cap on everything, then there is nothing wrong with someone buying something with a view to selling it for a higher price.

The only exception to this in my eyes would be vital life saving supplies/resources as that introduces ethical and community concerns.....This is a ***** £700 gpu to play games on - it literally doesn't matter if you have to wait a few more weeks to get it and no one is forcing anyone to pay over the odds on ebay for one.
