MSI z370 issues with i5 9600k

Hi guys

I just bought a second hand i5 9600k to go on an MSI Z370 gaming pro carbon ac mobo.

I flashed the bios to the newest one but I just cant get anything on screen with this cpu.

I tried a slightly older bios with no joy. The error lights on the mobo stay on CPU.

I have tried changing the ram around with no joy. I put the i3 back in and works straight away. Is it likely I bought a dodgy CPU? or am I missing something?

Does the cpu look damaged are there any bent pins on the motherboard

The pins are fine because when I put the i3 back in everything works perfectly.
The only thing I thought was a little odd was the marks where the mobo cpu cage rests on the cpu are fairly deep like a lot of pressure has been applied to it.

Bios up to date and no bent pins looks like it's the cpu.

Does cpu power connector on the motherboard need an extra connector ?

Looks like it. No it has the correct power cable. Is it worth trying different bios’s or is the latest one the best option?

Yes update the latest bios.

Sometimes there is an additional 4 pin power connector next to the 8 pin power connector.

Just flashed the bios again, checked for an extra power connector, it doesn’t have one.

still nothing on screen and red light next to the cpu EZ debug.

looks like I have bought a lemon!!!
