To help visualise it a bit more, here's what you're dealing with. There's definitely a bigger increase after 15:00. This is just off the information that has been submitted, and there are some points where order numbers are lower even if they were ordered later.

I find it sadly hilarious no one is pointing fingers at Nvidia here.. This lies squarely at their feet. If they didnt knee jerk panic release this guff to just 1up AMD and actually waited til they had mass stock, people wouldn't be crying here, gouging wouldn't be as bad as it is.

Wtf? my order number starts with 402xxxx and it's the same number for my payment authorization on OC and Amazon pay, my payment has been processed too and same order number.
It should be to the left of the 402 number in the email

You should have an email titled "[Important] Order Update - OUT OF STOCK ITEM(S)"
Your other related order number will be located in this email along with order time.

I'm not sure though, the rumoured 20gb version is supposed to be GDDR6, not GDDR6X which while powerful is experimental.
Now I can't predict the performance of something that hasn't happened yet and this isn't confirmed but if that is the case GDDR6X should become more optimised in time. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here
Also I sure those versions will be more expensive for not that much performance increase imo unless you're playing 4K and need that VRAM for textures.
Completely up for debate here but that's my two cents

Personally given what OcUK have said so far, and if I was the customer manager trying to figure the allocation queue out... I would:
- cancel any silly orders e.g. I want 5 GPUs
- contact those with multiple orders (the one's where people are hedging their bets) and ask them to pick one
- obviously split by manufacturer
- sort by order date & time first
- then by order number second
- email people once per 1 week or give them a portal that tells people where they are in the queue
- give people general stats on queue lengths because that might want to order say a Palit vs. Gigabyte if that means they get one delivered quicker
