So I've noticed you can get a later r171 350 slk for like under 8 grand these days , with basically a 300bhp v6 , hard top retractable roof.

Are these the biggest slept on performance bargains out there right now? Maybe due to the more girly lines?

Im sure your uncle likes it but i would personally feel a little embarrassed driving one of those as a bloke.

Personal choice of course.

I am quite into Mercedes, but I’d much rather have a (987) Boxster than one of these...it may not be quite as new, but what does that matter.

You can get a 10 plate for under 8k too.

Throw me soke other 300bhp or close to rwd cars for cheaper
350z / 370z / 335i / s2000

Your insecurity is amusing.

Edit: I bet you also think "it's not a proper porsche unless it's a 911" right?

Updated my post with 335i and s2k.

The porsche comment was for the other poster saying he would be embarrassed to be seen in an slk.

S2k are now more expensive than a 350 slk and very few around at decent mileage. Plus slower.

335i looks about 30% more expensive year / mileage and a much larger car (may be good or bad depending what you are looking for)

335i has far more performance potential and will be pushing 460bhp with a few bolt ons and tune. That would certainly be my choice. Not a very reliable car tho, has a few niggles that would need sorting over time no doubt.

I bought an 05 plate SLK 350 for £4000 In July - 75K full history and absolute minter . At this price point there what I call all done cars - as in all the depreciation is done .

Very quick cars -sub 6 sec 0-60 limited at 155mph and will do it . Don’t get a manual - Mercedes done do manuals very well at all .

Just check the engine number , you dont want one that has a bad balance shaft. It will disintegrate the engine . SLK world will let you know the bad ones .

I just sold it , got my money back and bought a 987 Boxster .

Nice, what next? Complete the hair dresser salon with a mr2 (mk3) and an mx5?

Joking of course but how come you sold the slk?

They aren't as sporty as they look.

Cheap because they are not all that sought after and drink lots of petrol.

They’re a slightly odd one for me as they’re not as driver focused as the competition, but not as wafty and poseur as say an SL. Not sure quite what niche they fill. Can’t argue with the price and performance on offer... although I’m still not sure I’d want to run a “cheap” Mercedes on a budget, as I’m sure it’s still very capable of throwing sizeable bills. Nice looking things though, but for me I’d either go with an SL320 or SLK55. The SL320 would more suit the wafting and the SLK55 would give more drama I think. Of course there’s the SL55, but that’s another leap in cash.

I’d still probably try to find the best 986 boxster if I were after a 2 seat roadster at this cash, but that’s a personal preference. A decent S2000 is north of £10k now.

350z is slower, heavier than the slk 350:/

Also likely to be older/ higher mileage for the money.

A brief look on parkers and autotrader for the stats would suggest very little price difference between equivalently aged 350z and SLK 350. Also the weight difference is less than an average sized passenger. Doesnt seem very significant the 0-60 is 0.4 seconds different...
