Upped the voltage to 1.45 (not stable at 1.4) on my Corsair bdie after seeing that's what the 8pack kit uses, c15 now seems stable but c14 windows crashes. This could be due to my sub timings though. Could someone with the c14 bdie take a screenshot of the main tab in the calculator with their sub timings please.

New daily and probably the most i can squeeze out of z390 before having to loosen up RTL's which hurts latency.

Z390 will likely be the lowest latency DDR4 platform sadly :(

Hey all,

I need an upgrade to 32GB. Currently on 6700k/z170 motherboard, which has 4 slots. Using a bog standard 3000Mhz C15 16GB kit currently (Corsair Vengeange). Will be moving to Zen 3/Rocketlake when they launch.

I'm trying to decide between ordering 2X16GB 3200Mhz C14 Ripped kits (so 4 sticks of 8GB), vs the 32GB 3600Mhz C16 kit (2 sticks of 16GB).

Is it more difficult to get a CPU with a strong enough IMC that can run all 4 sticks at 3200Mhz C14, vs 2 sticks at 3600Mhz c16?

Also, does anyone have any pictures of how these look installed in a motherboard please?

Thanks!

@Dave2150 2x16 support on Z170 is probably going to be your biggest challenge. I'd do some research on how much success people have doing 2x16 on your board first.

It's mostly for when I upgrade to Zen3/Rocket Lake. 2x16 were supported back in 2015 when I bought my board, several 2x16 kits on the QVL list, so not worried about that.

If I do have issues though, I'll just keep my current kit and hold off on selling it on the MM, least I'll have the memory ready for when I get my new CPU/motherboard, at a good pre brexit price! :p

Ordered "Crucial Ballistix RGB BL2K16G36C16U4BL 3600 MHz". 3600Mhz, C16, much cheaper than the Teamgroup.

Will report back if any issues on Z170 :p

Yeah. I bought the 3600Mhz 2x16 and some other kits while it was on sale, in preparation for Zen 3 on my rig and for a new R5 3600 B450 build. I have to run the 2x16 at 3333Mhz C15 on my 6700k Z170, any higher and it won't post or at least not reliably.

Ah thanks for the info. Totally fine with running it at reduced/speed timings, as it hopefully won't be long before I upgrade to Rocketlake/Zen3 (whichever is faster single core).

I've got a Maximus Hero VIII, which supposedly supports upto 3733Mhz (OC) - though of course the Crucial Ballistix is not on the QVL list as it's not been updated for eons.

I'll report back as to what it'll run at anyhow ;)

I have the Maximus Hero VIII Alpha, so I guess the experience may be similar. It's worth mentioning that I could run it at 3400Mhz, but then after a week or so I got my first post fail. Timings didn't seem to make much difference to my success, it was all about the speed.

Ah yeah. The boards should be good up to 3733, so guess it's just down the luck of the draw with the 6700k's IMC.

Just installed my memory (Crucial Ballistix BL2K16G36C16U4B). Did a few test boots at the XMP profile of 3600Mhz, c16, all seems good. Maybe luck of the draw with CPU IMC, or maybe the Maximus Hero VIII has better memory support?

Is this the fabled Micron 'E'? I know the Samsung B die was supposed to be good. Is this the preferred DRAM module type for Ryzen? I'm only using it on my 6700k\z170 until I get my Ryzen 5000 series CPU :D

Anyone have any experience with this kit, worth bothering to tighten timings etc?

Are these 8GB modules single or dual rank do we know? Trying to figure out the load on the memory controller if using 4 x 8GB....
Pretty much all 8GB modules are single rank.
(I do have a Kingston 2x8GB 3000C15 kit, back from 2015 which was dual rank. Very early DDR4 memory)

Hi Folks,

I was hoping someone could help offer an opinion with this RAM, specifically the CL16 3600 2x16GB variant. I'm planning on pairing it with a MSI X570 Unify and an AMD 5900x. Just reading on the tinkering that appears to be going on, I can't see if that tinkering is required or whether the XMP profiles will 'just work'. I'm concerned because the mobo isn't on the QVL for the RAM and the Ram isn't on the QVL for the MOBO.

Any opinions would be appreciated. :D

The XMP profile will work but really the only reason to spend this much money is if you are actually going to tinker with it (for example pushing it to 3600C14).

If you are going for XMP then BL2K16G36C16U4B is a good thing to Google for basically identical performance and 65% of the price. Can be found in red/white also.

Cheers Folks.

I do want to tinker but want a solid baseline from where to start so that I know what to expect as a minimum - you may have gathered I don't really know what I'm doing so want decent performance and then can play a bit once I know where I am up to.

Thanks, feel more confidant in the purchase now but I'll look into the Crucial as they have an RGB variant of that Ram for less than the 8Pack. :)
