Crosshair VIII Hero NVME in slot 2 POST error

Hi everyone - if i put my sabrent rocket pcie 4.0x into slot 2 on this motherboard i get a QCODE 94 and no POST, however if i put it in slot 1 all is fine and i can use it properly. Does anyone know what bios setting im missing to be able to use it in slot 2? Both slots should support pcie x4 so i dont understand why theres an issue here? Im just thinking ahead to what happens if i want to actually use slot 2 for another stick. Help gratefully received

What are the specs of your system?

Its a 3900xt, bios v2206, 16gb gskill 3600 ram... got 3 sata ssd's attached too.

Have you tried with just the M.2 card and no data drives?

No I didn’t try that. And now one of the tiny screws holding the m2 mb heat sink cover has broken with the end still in the standoff. Hmm...

PCI bus enumeration, sounds like a conflict with possibly the pcie lanes and just going by my own experience with various Asus boards its to do with the GPU somehow as i've run into this no POST error code with gpus mainly on a compatibility level not NVME drives. Did you try swapping around the M.2 Drives?

No I only have a single nvme drive at the moment. I’m getting a 3080 soon so hopefully that takes gpu compatibility out of the equation.
