Hi

Was up clearing loft and found some old laptops which still work. Anything from Core 2 Duo to Core i3. Most were either Vista or W7.

I installed a fresh W10 but they run sluggish due to 3gb RAM.

Would I be better installing Ubuntu onto them instead as I was only going to give for kids to use on Youtube and Internet.

Any advice and guides would be helpful (linux noob).

Cheers

I done a bit of "tinkering" last night.

I tried installed Peppermint then Lubuntu on one of them.

Does anyone know which is the best to install on it?

linux Mint MATE should run ok if you want a fairly fully fledged operating system. There are much lighter distros though. Depends how responsive you want the laptop to be vs how user friendly it is. The lighter the distro often means the less user friendly it is, and the more restricted the included apps are.

OpenSUSE LEAP 15.2 is a great distribution and is exceptionally stable. I've switched full time to it on my laptop from 2016 and my main workstation. It supports everything all the more popular distributions support, is easy to use, has great documentation and is supported by a commercial company who keep the distribution going.
