I was surprised to find a few posts praising the board. Always expect some funny business on a pc chips board. I really don’t know what I will do with it yet but will throw it into a system for some benches and tinkering at some point.

Installed the 200mmx last night but could not get it to run at 200mhz. The board seems to act like there is a jumper connected even when there is not! Will have to pull the board out and check for shorts although the multimeter did not see one. Anyone else seen behavior like this before?

Guys I’m building a circa 2005/6 XP machine around an Athlon x2 64 6000, 4GB DDR2 and an Asus SLI (Nvidia 570i sli chip).

I am a bit stuck in terms of GPU. The 2005 range of cards isn’t all that exciting, apart from maybe the 7950 G2 which was a dual GPU card from Nvidia. I’m thinking of skipping ahead a year or so to the 8800 GTX which was vastly more powerful and had a ton more vram. Thoughts?!

Just to say, I decided quite quickly - bought a pair of 8800 GTS 640MB for SLI. Going in this :

Agreed - such a classic look. The whole construction of it feels so good as well. I’m never selling this one! Can’t wait to get a system built up in it.

That does look good, makes me wish I'd picked up one I saw on Gumtree (even if it was modded to be an upside down case)

I saw one modded not so long ago. It had been absolutely butchered. Brought a tear to my eye...the only thing this one is getting is some new fans, otherwise aesthetically it will look entirely original.

Did you manage to sort this mate? Was the PC posting with the 200mmx? Was it just the speed that was incorrect?

Not yet mate. It posts fine but reports 166 regardless of the jumper being present or not. I ran some bench which said it was running ~166 too. I tried all variations of jumpers but the behavior is like a jumper is present in one of them even when there isnt! Not the end of the world just more puzzling than anything!

Not sure if this counts but ...

Last night I binged retro atari videos, watch an interview with Jeff Minter (who i've actually met!) and today I fired up an emulator and played myself so Dropzone :)

I dug around in the loft for more IDE drives to try out on my Dual P4. Luckily I had an 80GB drive that didn't throw up boot sectors missing during install of XP. So I now have a fully functional XP PC and I can finally benchmark it and maybe even use it! It's final specs unless I happen to come across a better GPU:

2.8GHz Galatin X2
3.5GB Rambus RA
7600GS
Audigy 2 ZS
IDE DVD and HDD
USB 2.0 Card as it has 1.1 only built in and I have it hooked up to the internet using a USB adapter.

In my opinion that's stupid money and a PC like that is worth only what someone (one person) will pay for it. At least things like Voodoo cards are popular enough that everyone wants one and some kind of going rate is established.

Unless he find that one person it's just a scrappy looking underpowered windows 98 PC in my opinion.

Its waaay overpriced for sure. Although the cases with speakers are desirable by some. I like to think he has listed it high but would listen to real offers..

If that was my actual case I would go high for it... But not that high.

Did it get accepted? I offered £10 for a broken 386 motherboard but got it for £15 in the end. Looks like some repairable battery damage. Will be nice to get the BAC case back to original 386 spec if I can fix that motherboard.

Got the SS7 system into a case tonight and am currently installing W98se.

I have paired the K6-2 300mhz with an ATI rage pro turbo for period correctness. Seems to be stable so far installing windows. Wont get time to test it anymore tonight so that will have to wait.

Also sold the trigem 486 today which was nice as its new owner was very excited to relive his youth and it has made some space but it was also one of my first retro projects since getting into this.

It didn't which I am glad about as overclocking the 7600GS that was in there didn't improve performance at all, so it looks like I'm perhaps AGP 4x limited...

Good buy on a 386 board for £15 if you can get it working! What sort of 386 system are you putting in there?

It’s an amd 386 40mhz. I’ve got 4x1mb ram I can fit and also a 512kb ISA card that would match it lovely. As well as a sound galaxy NX pro which can do SB 2.0 as well as covox and Disney sound source so quite versatile.

think I have watched enough of retrospector78s videos to be able to test and repair some of the traces should I need to!
