Wouldn't they want to offload as many GPUs as they could before AMD gets a chance?
Yes, but thats not it.

They don't have the stock of the 3080 or the 3090 so far. And the 3070 is likely to be even more popular due to it offering 2080ti performance for sod all price wise. They don't have the supply.

So if I were in Nvidias shoes. Pushing the 3070 release to the day after the 28th (and knowing Nvidias mindshare as well) could plague the news online surrounding the RDNA2 announcements and muddy the waters, this could cause a negative affect to RDNA2. I am going to bet that reviewers get 3070s and the embargos lifted a couple of days before the 28th as well.

Remember, that even if Nvidia are getting bad press, its taking any press time from AMD.

Two days ago: rumours that Nvidia doesn't believe it needs the RTx3080 to beat big Navi.

Today: Nvidia has moved the 3070 GA104 launch to be the day after big Navi.

that's quite the confident showing from Nvidia. If big Navi beats the 3070, the 3070 launch will be quickly forgotten into mediocrity but if big Navi loses to the 3070 or is poor value it will be a massive blow for AMD.

why doesnt AMD release a card to compete with nvidias top cards like the 2080ti or 3080/90?

they use to have cards back in the day but now their big cards only compete with nvidias low end cards

If the rumours are correct, Navi 21 should definitely be competitive with the 3080 at least, while also offering most of the VRAM that the 3090 has. Not going to say "it might even trade blows with the 3090" (I'm tempering my expectations) but it should certainly be competitive at the high end yes.

Well if thats all true, Might just pump a bit of cash and go for the Navi21 3080 competitor or 3070 competitor.

Well the 5700xt was a midrange competitor but all the indicators so far are that they'll compete at the high end. If Nvidia thought they couldn't compete you wouldnt see the 3080 for less than a grand.

Whut? It's a move purely based on saving face due to massive stock issues, I think we've already established that Nvidia brought forward the launch, with a tiny amount of stock, the performance metrics are totally irrelevant. All they've done is pee'd off people waiting for the RTX 3070, and those people are now going to end up waiting even longer effectively as it they miss the stock due to the bot match, they may end up waiting until January or longer. It's a trampy move by Nvidia and it effects consumers directly.

How can you possibly future proof it when the card won’t run 8k in any playable or acceptable form (as proven by 3090...)? It’s not like having the memory is any use unless you can upgrade the thing it’s attached to. Nvidia crazy talk.
Jensen would be happy if people just bought 2 3090's in SLI for 8k. Might hit 45-50 fps in 1 or 2 games...bargain.

Hah, no point waiting if you have a superior product, in fact they'd have liked to prepone to coincide with zen3 launch. Can't see any angle other than supply chain issues or a 3070 that is significantly inferior to navi (just ensure AMD has no comparable benchmarks at launch..)

Looks like a win guys, performance should be much better than 3070, but can it match the 3080?
