So are loads of other boards. I had a Rampage V Extreme the last time I was on Intel.

Stupidly expensive boards have been a thing for a long time.
I shall write "on average" in all my posts then.

It's also true to say that, on average, B550 boards were a lot more expensive than B450, when comparing release price.

And surely everybody remembers the discussion (and "moaning") about it at the time? I guess not.

It is a shame as they are decent CPU but the prices have overshadowed the talk about the performance.
Yeah, had the 5600X and 5800X been just $50 less, there's have been very little talk about price.

The other issue is that price is pretty much the only thing we have got to talk about for a fortnight until independent reviews are out.

But of an own goal by AMD really, they should release the CPUs asap, so they can distract from pricing talk.

Cut prices? The 3090 says hi.

If you think the 3000 series is an example of price cutting, you are beyond delusional.
I would beg to differ with my £650 3080. sure the 3090 is expensive but this card but this is aimed at people who do more than just game.

the 3070 is also cheaper than the 2070 while offering previous gen flagship performance which the 2070 did not.

Nvidia could have price the 3080 at 1k and it would have still sold out.

But of an own goal by AMD really

It will be if they don't beat overclocked intel in the reviewers gaming benchmarks.

The RTX 3080 is 30% faster than RTX 2080 Ti and retails for 63.4% the price.

Whereas the 5600X is around 23% faster and retails for 150% of the price.

Had AMD release the 5600 or 5700X at reasonable prices they would have been hero's but all the talk of pricing has been a bit of an own goal kind of like when they cut support for the 400 series then went back on it.

Speaking of performance, I think that Intel will keep performance lead in some applications like SuperPi, Web Browsing Google Octane, Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Photogrammetry, Database MySQL, WinRAR File Compression, Encryption VeraCrypt, MP3 Encoding.

If not with Comet Lake, with Rocket Lake.

Does that have to be overclocked Intel vs stock ryzen or are they allowed to overclock both ?
Overclock both of course but we all know ryzen don't OC well and if the all core is lower than the max single core boost it will likely perform worse than stock+PBO in games.

This has probably been mentioned but worth repeating and this is the highlight:

For 400 series chipset users ... the first beta BIOSes with Ryzen 5000 support to be made available from January.

"For 500 series chipset users, motherboards firmware that supports the new hardware should already be available. Users will need to ensure that a minimum AGESA version of 1.0.8.0 is installed which will ensure that the system will boot. For full support and performance, users should update to AGESA 1.1.0.0 for the best experience.

For 400 series chipset users, AMD is currently hard at work with motherboard partners to update their firmware stacks. AMD expects the first beta BIOSes with Ryzen 5000 support to be made available from January, however part of this will be motherboard manufacturer dependent. Full release BIOSes will be at a later date. When asked if the new 5000-series firmware for 400-series chipsets will remove support for older processors, AMD said it would be on a case-by-case basis depending on how the motherboard vendor wanted to enable support."

Damn I was going to go AMD this time but not sure if I can handle calculating Pi less slowly than I could be.

That last point is why it stings. Especially if the 3600 drops again for runout/BF deals.

The 5900x is barely more expensive than the launch day 3900x, the sku's below don't appear as good value. However the fact each release of chip doesn't necessarily always result in the need for a new motherboard is great.
