You paid £2.5K for a main dealer to do a timing belt service on a Megane...

And you again are talking about timing belt services like they are alien to us and like it isn't the same for most of our cars?

I'm out, I'm not touching this. You guys can deal with it. :p

Renault Megane Dynamique 2.0 TCE twin turbo 180BHP!

As an aside, it's only got one turbocharger – a twin-scroll unit. It doesn't have two turbochargers. :)

I think you paid well over the odds, regardless, but if you're happy...

I had a cursory glance and, on brief inspection, it looks like a specialist would charge £700 or so (if that) to do the same job. I'd trust them more than the main dealer, too.

A six-hour job, according to the book.

Anyway, all moot now.

Renault Megane Dynamique 2.0 TCE twin turbo 180BHP! Well I would not trust anyone else with changing the cam belt as it can & does wreck the engine if it snaps! Its a common issue on older Renaults previous owners skip getting the cam belt, water pump & cam pulleys replaced at the same time due to cost & just chance the belt will not snap  me I prefer to get it all done at once as a sensible precaution & main dealer means if they mess up the engine timing they have to replace or repair.

Oh, um. cool.
From what I understand most engines are interference, i.e. can grenade if a cambelt snaps, but that's not really a reason to use a main dealer over a specialist or any reputable garage.
It's your money though so spend it as you see fit!

Not just that read my previous post with all the details! Cam belt, water pump, cam pulleys, front brake pads & discs & many other things! Around £670 parts the rest labour plus you have to pay VAT @ 20% so Boris can continue to wreck the economy forever!

:p:)

8-10 hours when you also get the water pump cam pulleys replaced (not point not getting them done its the same hard to access part of the engine) You can get it done for only £563 but who to trust (few in London that's for sure!) & only 3 months warranty plus if they wreck the engine I doubt somehow they are going to put that right without a major legal battle!

Anyway I did my extensive research beforehand I know all about how you can get around things & get someone else to do it way cheaper (if your not bothered about a long warranty & or them breaking something really expensive!). Its not really a choice if you want to ensure trouble free motoring you can either buy something newer or take a chance on something older & get the maintenance done properly!

Yes sorry, I missed the £100 brake job and the (at most) £56 MOT, I apologise. ;)

Also those who want trouble free (and presumably cost effective) motoring don't buy a decade old French turbo petrol car and immediately dump £2.5K into it for £750 worth of work.

But if you're a few sandwiches short, whatever you like I suppose...

Water pump replacement is normally par for the course when you're doing a cambelt, on pretty much most cars. I would presume changing a cam pulley is also fairly simple when everything is off, I'd imagine it wouldn't add 3-4 hours to the job, unless of course someone is willing to pay for it.
Pity the research didn't lead to asking questions here as we may have saved you some dosh.
If a cambelt is going to snap, it'll snap regardless of who changed it, and paying through the nose certainly does not guarantee trouble free motoring!

Finally got chance to replace the NSR brake caliper on the TT. I think I need to have another go at bleeding though as I’m certain the pedal feels worse than before.

Not too bad of a job though, about an hour.

Took the M3 for it's first major service that's not been covered by the service pack. It's had filters, spark plugs, oil, etc. and I had it done at Evolve Automotive. Pretty cool seeing all their Youtube star cars in the flesh.

Total cost was £634 and I believe, had I taken it to a BMW main dealer, it would have been the lion's share of £900!!!
